The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an interest in aquariums or fish keeping!

I know what you mean... we have several aquarium stores in the metro area but in general the employees at the stores have not been very pleasant when I tried to ask questions about fish or products... it made the bonus fish and efficient service I got online that much more appreciated!
Thanks OhNeil! I've had a great time today watching them get to work on the algae on my plants... I am guessing that the plants are enjoying it as well ;)
Just a quick update re: my aquariumfish.net order...
My 4 siamese algae eaters arrived this morning and looked very health and happy just a few minutes after being introduced into their new home. Also, the order included 2 free SAE's as a thank-you for my order. Very cool! While I...
I've got 4 SAE on order from Aquariumfish.net that are arriving on Saturday. This is my first delivery order of fish but after driving near and far for SAE's I decided to take the chance. I'm happy to provide feedback about the experience once they arrive! :)
So if I'm understanding you guys correctly, the increased gph of the combined filters, as well as increased surface area provided by the second filter should improve ammonia and nitrite conversion?
I also wonder if mfdrookie's point, that increasing the bioload in the tank, would have the...
I see... interesting! So in order to increase biological filtration I have to change something in the tank (like the number of fish) in order to increase the ammonia and nitrites available to support additional bacteria? That makes sense.
Hey all!
I recently added a second filter (Fluval Internal U3) to my existing set-up (65 gallon with Aquaclear 70). In less than 24 hours I am already noticing significant improvement in water clarity. I am wondering how long it will be before I can assume I'm getting the maximum biological...
Love the tank! The black background really brings out the colors of the plants, substrate, and fish quite nicely... did you add it yourself or is it built into the tank to hide the filtration equipment?
I would suggest House of Tropicals or Aquarium Depot over Exotic Aquatics... while the livestock selection at EA is really impressive, I haven't found the staff particularly friendly or helpful.
Day 3 of my saga...
When I got home from work tonight everybody in the tank looked to be doing fine. My gourami looked about the same as yesterday if not slightly better.
Water status is:
Ammonia: .25ppm
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 80
In other words, the same as yesterday before my pwc...
Ugh. So when I got home from work today my pearl grourami was looking a little worse than yesterday... sitting on the surface of the gravel hidden behind a large rock. I did another round of water tests and came up with:
Ammonia of .25ppm (it was 0 yesterday)
Nitrites of 0 (it was .25...
Hmmm... I think I might try boiling the driftwood if I determine that it is not the source of all of the phosphates. It is a pretty big piece, though, so I'm not sure I have something big enough to hold it for the stove!
Great suggestions... did a pwc today and will start daily changes tomorrow. I think I'm going to try the driftwood experiment as well. It's looking pretty worn out as it is so it might be time to change it regardless.
Sorry to keep asking more questions, but does it matter how long I wait to...
