I know your pain... I have a perfect tank and everyone is green ally happy... but the only GBR stock here seems to have its issues... I have lost a breeding pair already :( I just got two new ones two days ago... I'm hoping for a better outcome.

Depends on the fish... depends on the size... I have also heard 5 minutes...
I personally go by my phosphate level in my tank, if it is high I am feeding to much. If it is low I'm good...
Anyone else?

So I was sitting watching my fish today remembering all the "odd" ones I have had.
For example I had an apple snail that when I went to feed he would "rush" up to the top of the tank to be hand fed.
Or my bristlenose that was actually a horrible murderer.
And let's not forget my current...
I don't disagree with anything you said :) I have been on some pretty strong meds the last week and my brain hasn't been working! Yay... sickness...
For some reason I thought it was a 10 gallon... 3 corys and one betta in a 5 gallon is not a good idea. Coursair is correct, corys need groups of...

Actually I would do two 50-75% water changes for the big tank ASAP. The salt and the ammonia levels worry me.

Sorry about your loss first off. And second good for you taking on these tanks!
Can you test your tap water and tell us those parameters?
The aquarium salt worries me in the tanks. Corydoras do not do well in salt so I would highly suggest doing a 50-75% water change ASAP to get that salt...
Personally, I would only put two figure 8 puffers in there. Also two that you get together at the pet store, younger the better... putting them with any other fish is testing fate...
Have you had other tanks before?
That may work... but I'm really not sure what to do... but most animal's reaction to physical stress is to poop and puke.
