You can keep just one mollie. I believe the issue is the male wanting to mate. Perhaps you should choose all of one sex or several females to one male

You could do a betta or invert tank. You really need filtration though.

I use DIY CO2 and I will tell you my plants almost grew before my eyes. Have to use ferts as well.
