I just got back into hobby, have a 10g for a betta, purchsed an aquaeon quiet flow 30 as suggested by PetSmart fish person. it realy pushed my betta around if he swims in front of it. is this too much flow for a 10g? how could I reduce the flow rate and would it be harmful for filter?

picture of the black funk in my tank I was finally able to get a pic of the black funk on my plants and rocks. I removed all the leaves which has this stuff on it. what is this an indication of? I change 50% water weekly even if the water parameters are good.
