Improving an Old Eheim 2224 Filter

Hi, I have one of these old filters. It has two baskets inside for the filter media, the baskets connect to each other and to the pump with little rubber rings to create a seal. I watched a YouTube video where a guy removed those rings and instead connected everything with a small length of...

Cloudy/Dirty looking water after four months

Thanks for your answer! I'm hoping it will get better. I've changed out about 10% of the water for the last two days, it isn't getting worse! Maybe it's even a bit cleared up. The fish still seem to be healthy, no one has died. How long does a bacterial bloom last? Should I give it a week...

Cloudy/Dirty looking water after four months

I have a 190L/55ish US Gallons corner aquarium. It's looked beautiful for months, but two weeks ago it started to look cloudy after weekly maintenance. Now I can hardly see the back of the tank. I have a few theories why this is happening, please let me know if I'm on the right track: 1. I have...

Are two Yoyo Loaches really enough?

Hi, I had planned on buying four Yoyo Loaches and three dwarf sucking catfish this afternoon. I have a 190L/50ish gallon corner bowfront aquarium. There are already 11 Neon Tetras and three spotted or mottled Corys. The man at the fish store told me that Yoyo loaches don't need to live in a...

Thanks for the tips. I got three of what I think are called Mottled Corydoras in English. I hope they don't get too big, I really want to get a few Loaches and I know they need space. I think guppies are beautiful and would probably get males, three or so. I heard they can fight if there are...

    Hi from Germany

Hi, and thanks for the welcome! Yes Sera is a German aquarium supplies company, I'm still a newbie but I like what I've seen so far. They also have Tetra here, I bought Tetra fish food to start with, because I know it from the US.

By design, I'm a big Weird Al fan. He doesn't seem to ever tour Europe, boo. I saw him once in New York, I don't know if I've laughed so hard since!

Yes, I read that the Cabomba I planted in front of it grows fast... In German it's called Haarnixe, hairy waterspirit . A nixe is like a mermaid, but it seduces men and lets them drown. I'm going to look into the frosted glass film. I wasn't feeling the backgrounds at the aquarium store...

Thanks, glad to be here. It's so peaceful to sit and watch the fish, I haven't turned the TV on since we brought the tetras home. I'm really looking forward to adding some more fish in a couple of weeks.

    Quiet Filter

I bought a used Eheim 2224 canister and it's so quiet I couldn't tell it was on before I had primed it. The water rushing out of the sprayer can be a bit loud, but I lowered it a bit into the water and changed the angle of the sprayer.

    Hi from Germany

There are a lot of German aquarium forums, but I'd rather post in English (I'm American). Anyone else in my shoes? I don't know how different the European and American markets are from each other, that would be good to know if anyone could point out the biggest differences. Aside from the...

Here it is. I know the driftwood piece looks stupid... I would like to turn it into a moss tree eventually. Also, my husband likes the big urn thing and that has to stay. :nono: I need a background too. It's hard to find one for this aquarium. I may have to buy two and cut them. I can't move it...

    I'm new here...

Hi, I'm BrightnNerdy. Three weeks ago, I fulfilled my life long dream of getting a "real" aquarium and today I added the first fish - 11 neon tetras. I hope to eventually add a few loaches, maybe some guppies, catfish and a dwarf gourami. My tank is a 190 liter (50 gallon) corner tank with a...
