20 gallon tall

I'm using flourish seachem 2 t8 bulbs, dirted tank. and im using co2

If I buy a small bunch, how would it grow across my 20 gallon? Would I just trim the hairgrass when it gets long and replanting it? Or would I have to buy a whole bunch of hairgrass?

at my LFS the puffers are in a community tank and they were peaceful with the other fish. Keep in mind that these are dwarf (they grow about 1 inch max) and I'm not looking to get that many. I was just asking if one or two can live with a school of tetras
