actually, those species are pretty tolerant of hard water, which is why I chose them - the Krib prefers hard, alkaline water, the cacatuoides is found in many varying water conditions, the angelfish, having been domesticated for so long it is pretty adaptable, and the bolivian rams like harder...

There's only one brown spike tailed paradise fish, and in the store its in a tank packed with female bettas, cherry barbs, and others... it will chase others out of it's small territoru, but it didnt seem too aggressive. Also, it's the day's spiketail paradise fish, not the typical paradise...

that's interesting about the pygmies, i always read they were mid-water dwelling. I think I might pick up some corydoras melini i saw at the lfs store, as the pygmy's may be too small: i forgot to mention they will be in a 24" deep tank, sharing it with an angel, and hopefully in the future one...
