    Oto Eggs

Hi Alshain, congrats on the eggs! Please take photos to share if you can! It certainly isn't a common occurence, so you must be doing a great job. Do you have any setup parameters to share?

    Overfed, sick or pregnant???

Hi there, I didn't notice this post till now. The 6 (now 5) otos have been in the tank for about 6 months or so. The one change that I did make recently was to start feeding Hikari Micro Pellets and Tubifex Worms to condition my Endlers (that incidentally gave birth only to have the fry all...

    Compact florescent vs incandescent

Yes, you can. I've used 2x15W CF bulbs in my 10G AGA economy hood before with pretty good results. I think I read somewhere on the forums that you can use up to 23W bulbs, depending on the size of the ballast and the size of your hood. Just bring the hood along when you go bulb shopping to make...

    Filters

Hi there, you're basically trying to avoid too much surface agitation, as that leads to out-gassing, which you're trying to avoid if you just spent $200+ injecting CO2:P I actually don't get much surface agitation from my Aqua Clear 30 in my 10G low-light planted, but then I don't inject CO2 in...

Anyone familiar with LFSs or fish farms in Singapore

Hi folks, I will be headed over to Singapore for ~2 weeks and was looking for recommendations of LFSs or fish farms to check out while I'm there. I won't be able to bring any livestock back of course, or at least I don't think I can clear customs with any fish or plants, so I'm really just...

These are a few of my fav fish - stocking 30 gal

Look at the Yo-yo loach. It doesn't grow as big as the clown loach. I have however noticed one particular yoyo nipping my guppies fins. I haven't witnessed it firsthand, but I'm pretty sure the same yoyo is eating guppy fry!

    Overfed, sick or pregnant???

Unfortunately, the Oto didn't survive the move to my QT/HT. I'm not sure if it was the bloat or the the move that killed it. Thanks for everyone's advice. Should I be concerned about the other fish developing bloat too? Perhaps I should just move the Otos. I'm about to start a 29G planted in any...

Looking for med light plant clippings

Hi folks, I got a good deal on a 65W fixture for my 29G and finally saved enough to take the plunge on pressurized CO2. Am looking for med to high light plants to get me going. I don't have too much to trade beyond java moss, java fern and bacopa plantwise, but have some guppies that are being...

    Overfed, sick or pregnant???

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll isolate this guy and cut back on feedings. I usually feed the fish every other day and not on Sundays, and even then only enough for the Endlers. I have seen the Otos nibble at the micro pellets, but usually they get a slice of blanched zucchini. Could one of the...

    Overfed, sick or pregnant???

Hi folks, I've been trying to condition a bunch of Endlers on Hikari Micro Pellets and Tubifex worms for the past two weeks. The Endlers share a 10G low light planted tank with 6 Otocinclus catfish. Right after my last water change on Friday, I noticed that one of the Otos was very much plumper...

    New tank question

http://www.fishstoretn.com/bio_spira.html Here's a good place to order it if you can't find it locally. IMHO, I'd do it just for peace of mind and speed. Like Menagerie said, you'll be doing a lot of water changes just to keep toxicity down. You're probably still ahead even with the cost of all...

    nitRATES

http://www.novalek.com/kpd47.htm I was surprised to find out this product even existed as I never let my nitrate go beyond 40ppm, but if you believe the contents of this ad : "tolerances to nitrate toxicity vary greatly (some species can tolerate an indication of 300-400 ppm or more) the...

    Local CO2 resources

Hi folks, as mentioned previously in another thread, I've been hunting down local sources for a CO2 cylinder, as I was worried about the safety and expense of shipping a CO2 cylinder. Most of the online resources recommended looking at local welding, fire extinguisher and bar supply stores. I...
