Turns out, the city chose the same time as the initial pH crash to do its annual chlorine flush...which raised the chloramine levels in our water to several times what the standard dose of Prime can handle. Ended up having to triple-dose. Looks like everything is finally getting back to normal...

The new 30g is progressing nicely. Current fish include 4 neon tetras & 2 julii cory; I'll be adding at least 4 more neons & 2 more cory. But I still haven't decided on a centerpiece fish. Any suggestions, other than dwarf gourami? I am considering them; but I'm pretty sure I want one in another...

LFS was out of neons (?!) so I brought home my first julii corys today instead. If I can manage to keep them alive, then I'll pick up another pair on my next trip out... Also, started working on the plans for DH's 'ghost tank'

During the fishless cycle in one of my 30gs, crystals began forming on the outside of the heater. Is the heat causing minerals to precipitate out of the water? Or is something else going on? Should I remove the crystals before putting in the fish, or will it be safe as-is? Both aquariums are...

Had a scare with a disappearing fish first thing. Pulled up the plants, moved the caves, tore apart the filters...and still no fish. Fifteen minutes later, he swims out of the cave I had already checked. Really...?

I'd say moderately planted, just fakes right now since I've had very little luck ever getting aquarium plants to grow...

The fish for my new 30g should be able to start coming home soon, and I'm still having trouble deciding. I definitely want neon tetras, and may be adding corydoras and dwarf gourami down the road. My options are as follows: a) just tetras b) tetras and cherry barbs or harlequin rasbora c) small...

Refills for my test kit arrived--hooray!--so I've got an accurate read on my nitrate/nitrite levels again. We'll see how close we are to being cycled in the morning...

The first of my 3 planned 30g aquariums is up and running, and I'm happy with all but one thing...the volume of sound produced by the filter. It literally sounds like I have a small motorbike in my dining room. So that I don't make the same mistake with #2 and #3, can anyone recommend filters...

He was acclimated, and he lived for another four years after that incident; he just flung himself at the walls any time the lights were turned on.

Are there any advantages to one type of cory over another in a 30g, other than the difference in size? Just found another LFS, and they have not only albino but julii and emerald. Also, those with dwarf gourami: what's your favorite variety? The same LFS above has blue/neon blue, honey, flame...
