I am just worried about the water quality afterwards. Afterall, I do want plants and fish to be able to survive in the sealed pond.

    HOB versus undergravel filter

Thanks Tom2K, Apocalypse Gold and BillD for your info. I am a lot clearer now on the pro and cons of UFG and HOB. That info is almost worth a sticky!

    HOB versus undergravel filter

Ok. Now that I have heard that HOB is to be preferred, I am still unclear of the reason why. Is it the water amount that is being filtered or is it something else. The 30 gal octagonal is probably still too small for a pleco, but other than guppies and platies, neons, corys, what else could be...

    HOB versus undergravel filter

Is there a difference in filter efficiency between HOB and undergravel filter. I sometimes even see a combination between the two. For which aquarium types or sizes is one to be preferred versus the other?

    30 gal octagonal tank setup

Hi there, It's been a while, but I am back now. I just got a 30 gal octagonal tank given to me. I love it. Do you have any suggestions on how to set it up. I am a bit limited with funds right now. All I have basically is the tank and the platform for the undergravel filter. I am not quite sure...

    need help sealing a pond

What can you use to seal a pond (part rock, part concrete) with an uneven surface. A liner would be extremely hard to install. Are there any liquids available that stretch slightly when cured to allow for seasonal temperature related expansion and contractions?

    treating tank with "general cure"

She is sort of getting thinner and thinner with her vent open. Nothing visible on the outside. She seems to be getting weaker and mostly scrapes around the gravel or lies in a bell ornament sort of sideways. Then, when feeding, she sort of wiggles her way straight up to the surface and nibbles...

    treating tank with "general cure"

Hi there, I know, it has been a while, but I am back now. After loosing my otocinclus (it was a substitute that the lfs gave me when I got my fish back after the cycle with "fuzzy") shortly after, everything is settled, except for my platy female. Being chased by two males (yes, the lady that...

    tank becoming cloudy

As ripvanrina said, some might survive, but you can bet, that the conditions in the tank will be far from comfortable for them. Any plans on what you will do with them after your tank is cycled?

    tank becoming cloudy

The test tube kits are more accurate than the dip sticks. No point saving money there. For a FW tank you need a FW test kit. I would have adviced you to cycle without fish. Is there a chance you can return the fish to the lfs and cycle with a piece of raw prawn of shrimp? Figure about a month...

    it's cycled! it's cycled!

:band: Way to go, Patagonia. You did it. The fishless cycle will be a breeze after what you've just been through. Kick back and relax.

    Hello

After cycling the tank fishless, I would suggest guppies or platies.

    Huzzah!! Cycle complete!

Congratulations and have fun with your fish

    can it be this long?

As long as you still have nitrites, you are not done yet. Hang in there for a bit longer. I know how you must feel. You will get there. good luck!
