high ph tap water need advice

Peat moss in your filter does work, but will leech tannins and make your water tea-colored (like driftwood), if you don't mind that.

    cherry shrimp with eggs?

If you're intent on having some shrimplets survive, a breeding net is pretty much required... Even with an entire carpet of java moss, your fish will find and make a quick meal out of the majority of them, if not all of them. Baby shrimp are VERY TINY and very edible. :P

    First fishless cycle

Pretty much the exact same process as cycling with fish, but using pure ammonia to dose per day. Crushed fish flakes will work fine as well though, if you won't bother purchasing ammonia. Main thing to remember is to keep the aquarium lights off the entire cycle to prevent a huge algae bloom...

    225 gallon stock list

Do not stock the 5 bala sharks- pretty much impossible to own in the long-run with everything else you're stocking in your 125. Each one will grow to over a foot long and WILL cause problems in the future with all of your smaller fish... aka eating them. They're also not peaceful fish by any...

    Java moss question.

If it's humid enough in the area above the water, it will survive fine. If your other tank is open-top, I suppose it depends how far out you want the java moss to be. I'm sure that it will stop growing when dried out... that is to say, I'm not sure whether it is secretly still alive when it's...

    mad crazy guppy!!!! >/

Guppies are generally peaceful fish 95% of the time. But I've also had an experience in the past where there was just that one rare, insane female who picked fights with a select few other females all the time. She was really a pain. I ended up moving her to my 55gal from the 10gal she was in...

high ph tap water need advice

If you have an RO water filter, RO water comes out with a pH of 6.0... so half and half would balance it out. Other than that, the level of concern depends on what kind of fish you have. For example, tetras prefer lower pH, but guppies are fine in high pH.

    Lights

Yep, it is. :] My neons and cardinals get so pale after an hour or two after the lights shut off. Their red and blues fade so much, they look like dead fish.

What exactly do guppy fry eat?

Fry eat anything the adults eat, just in smaller bites. :) Higher protein for fry is also beneficial. Hikari First Bites are the top guppy fry food on the market. It's well worth it.

Can Koi Angelfish live with fancies?

Besides incompatible requirements, angelfish (being semi-aggressive type) are big nippers, and will be especially dangerous with peaceful fancies with their long fins.

    The Green Water Miracle

for those of you who haven't heard of this, here's from another forum: "Hello Guppians: Like everyone else who is serious about raising guppies, I do the bare-bottom tank/ water-changing/ multiple feedings/ live brine shrimp routine. However, there is a far better way. Back at the end of...

    How often to water change?

Confession: I haven't water changed my 5.5gal with 25 fry in it for 2 months. BEHOLD. But I do have a hefty amount of java moss in there. I just tested for nitrates, and it was probably about 1ppm, if not 0. My fry are all doing great and growing well. Is it still necessary to water change...

guppies gasping at surface, not moving, ZERO ammonia/nitrite/nitrate!

Okay I just witnessed one of the females having multiple spazz attacks. Parasites? Is Parasite Guard a reliable medication? Still though, what's the cause of parasites and how can I prevent it for good? I seperated the three females in a seperate container. Should I treat them all for...
