I make all my saltwater for water changes in a 10 gallon aquarium. I have a heater and 2 power heads. I don't think you can rush it. I let it sit at least overnight. The only thing you might be able to do is add a little salt at a time

If your running a sump I would put a filter sock on the drain line but keep the power heads off until it settles. You can wait a few days before you start testing but depending on the size of the tank, your set up, amount of live rock and sand, what your using for ammonia source, etc. you...

There are some videos on YouTube. You need a diamond tip hole saw. Most people make a dam around where you are drilling to hold water. Then just go slow. Personally I have not done this, it was just what I saw from te videos

You could...but that's one hell of a point of failure. Do you want to risk it all draining? I'd consider buying or trading for a new tank that isn't drilled!

The main concern would be how much water height you need for the return and skimmer.

Regardless of the size you get I would recommend the ball valve so you can dial it in or as someone else said if you have to shut it down.
