Freshly activated carbon removes fertilizer & medicines. I think if it's older than 2 weeks it's pretty much useless by then and won't remove fertilizers or anything else...In short, it doesn't do much good so just remove it. :P

I'm pretty sure it'd be low lighting. I'm no expert at lighting but 2 x 39 watts = approx 80 watts (and at 6500 k...) You'll need 150-200 watts for it to be medium light I think...

If you're just keeping Java moss and Java ferns you don't need any fertilizer in my opinion. These plants are really hardy and will survive in many different conditions, even low light. I'm not sure about crayfish eating them though..if it gets to be a big problem you may have to consider...

I recently exposed my male betta fish to a guppy that had body fungus...I kept the 2 in the same hospital tank for about 6 hours. My betta had fin rot but I read that clean water will help him heal quickly so... I removed the betta after that and put him back in his original 10 gallon tank...

I grow water sprite with its look-alike - water wisteria, which resembles it but has wider, bigger leaves. They go well together and grow really fast & get bushy like a shrub. =)

Dwarf gouramis are considered peaceful but you can't house them with betta fish. Since they both have labyrinth organs they will fight each other. You can add 6 neon tetras (or other small tetras) and 2 gouramis tops in a 10 gallon. Or you can just do 4 gouramis, a few shrimp/snails...Try not to...

I think when the angels mature to adult size they will eat small fish (i.e. neon tetras). I'm not sure but wouldn't putting angels with rams be risky since both species get pretty territorial? You should definitely add more cory catfish. Maybe serpae tetras would be good but I'm not sure...any...

You could try borrowing books from the library...most should have a "pets" section with a couple good aquarium fish related books. :)

White spots = Ick. Raise the temperature to 82 F or higher and add salt to the tank. Or you can buy medicine available at your local fish store.

I agree. I'm pretty sure the fish was dead before the snail arrived on scene. I doubt any snail has the power to prey on fish..they usually come in to clean up the decaying body. Unless your tetra was a baby and the snail was huge....

Please don't let your cory catfish starve by letting them "scavenge" for leftovers...usually, unless you severely overfeed, there won't be enough leftovers on the bottom to sustain them and they'll starve to death. I agree you should supplement their diet with sinking shrimp pellets or wafers...

I know it's probably unfeasible but I had algae that looked just like that...I had to take down the tank and scrub it with bleach and really hot water before it came off...If it feels slimy, could be a bacteria called Cyanobacteria, in which case you will need to turn off the lights and perhaps...

Java moss is by the far the easiest moss I've encountered. Impossible to kill and grows well on wood.

If it's just the tank and nothing else, I've seen people sell it online for $90.
