    arowana Q's

I've snorkeled reefs many times, and just got my scuba license over the summer, where I had to do several open water lake dives. Haven't gotten to dive a reef yet, but I can't wait to :) Anyway, I still have to disagree with you on this. I see what you're saying about captive habitat size...

    arowana Q's

I hear your arguments, and I'm not saying you're terrible people for keeping, or wanting to keep arowanas - I just think this is one of those cases where people are just trying to justify things to themselves. I can't relate to thinking that the fact that a fish can turn around in their tank...

So, what you're saying is, the vast majority of them kept in captivity are stunted, except the ones in tanks larger than those available to the average aquarist? I'd agree.

They get THREE FEET LONG. A 180g 6' tank is downright cruel for a fish that big IMO.

Will Blue Rams eat snails/snail eggs?

Um, the rams would not live with the puffers. The puffers are in a brackish tank, I'm talking about putting the rams into the FW planted tank that I breed snails in for the puffers. Ie., the rams would be living with the puffer's food, hence why I am worried about disease being transferred...

Will Blue Rams eat snails/snail eggs?

Thanks for the reply. As mean as it sounds, I don't care about the snails lol; I'm just paranoid about something getting transferred to the puffers from eating the snails who would live with the rams. Sounds like it'd probably be best to QT the rams just in case. Uh oh, time for tank #3, lol.

Will Blue Rams eat snails/snail eggs?

I want to put a pair of Blue Rams in a planted 20g I'm using as a snail breeding tank (Ramshorns) for my puffers. - I'm wondering if the Rams would potentially eat baby snails/snail eggs, and deplete the population? - Also, is there a chance if I don't QT the rams, that they could introduce...

Anyone know where I can get a 36g corner bowfront CANOPY?

Going to pick up a 36g corner bowfront tank on Thursday, and I'd like to get a canopy for it (by canopy I mean the wood finishing piece that sits a top the hood, light, filter etc.). I've searched online but I can't find one anywhere. Anyone know? The tank is black with a black stand. Thanks!

Frequently moving a small reef tank?

Sounds good. I'd like to get some LR in there, get the tank cycled and going, then maybe add some corals or a fish once I feel comfortable. I'll definitely need a protein skimmer, and would like to get my own RO/DI unit as well. A few more questions: 1. Filtration? Assuming I'll have 60-70lbs...

Frequently moving a small reef tank?

Right. I've heard they're quite territorial. I also love algae blennies, but have heard that they need a well established tank to thrive? Anyway I think I've made up my mind to try this. Now I need to do some research! How much LR would I need for a 20g? Could I get away with like 20-30lbs of...

Frequently moving a small reef tank?

I'd love to go as big as possible, but space is an issue. I've already got a 45g tank for my puffers, and my room just isn't that big. I don't know that much about jawfish, other than that I regularly see one at a local movie theatre and he's hilarious. The local LFS sponsors tanks there, who...

Frequently moving a small reef tank?

Thanks for the responses. Ideally I'd like to end up with something like a blue spotted jawfish or an algae blenny in there, but I'd most definitely let the tank establish itself before adding one. The biggest thing is that I want to get more familiar with SW/reef setups; I'm graduating this...

Frequently moving a small reef tank?

Thanks. I live in an apartment off campus (I'm a second year senior), so no worries about getting in. Do you mean I could potentially leave the tank for a month unattended and it'd be okay?

Frequently moving a small reef tank?

Thanks for the responses. How long could a small reef tank be left alone for? Ie., could I come up to school like once a week to take care of it over Christmas? Would an auto-top off lengthen the time I could leave it?
