CichlidStore.com - Haps & Peacocks for sale
You'll need to contact the store directly because the shopping cart won't allow you to specify sex. I spoke with Edwin on at least a dozen occasions before and after the transaction. He's an awesome person and very professional. They are a very...
Here's a video I recorded a couple days after they arrived:
YouTube - 65G All Male African Cichlid Tank
All the cichlids are happy and appear to be healthy (one has a slightly cloudy eye, but we're adding aquarium salt to try to clear that up). However, we lost one of our otocinclus to...
I love my clown pleco....but - I almost never see him. He stays hidden underneath his piece of driftwood nearly 100% of the time. I occasionally see him when I'm doing a PWC, only because I have to disturb his driftwood to clean properly. If you are expecting to see him interacting with the...
Fish just showed up today, I hauled tail to meet the FedEx driver (she called and told me the box was leaking badly).
Though stressed, they fish seem to be in good health overall. I need to keep an eye on the otopharynx lithobates because his was the bag that leaked and he didn't have much...
Nah, don't worry about it. we got some of that stuff on our driftwood. Just to be sure, the sort we had was very light grey and fuzzy. Ours died off after few days and a PWC where I agitated it a bit.
The tank is heavily planted. The lights are on a timer with a 12/12 schedule.
I have never heard of anyone covering their tank after lights-out. There are only two diurnal species in the tank, but they are both approaching 2 years old and don't seem to be showing any stress from being...
I might have the brand names confused, but I do have a bottle of bacteria that I use occasionally. Prime must be the dechlorination product I use. Either way, thank for the heads up, we'll just wait it out and continue our PWC every 3-4 days.
I soaked the driftwood in my tub for several days in scalding hot water, then I soaked it in a kiddie pool for over a month. Finally, I aged my driftwood in the sun/weather for six+ months.
The driftwood is too large to boil with any container I have. Bottom line, I dont think the driftwood...

I've been doing PWC every 3 days because I have a ton of driftwood in this tank and it's leeching tannins into the water badly. My tank water has maintained the light brown color...

Not trying to be a smarty pants, but try to wait until it sinks in the bucket. Using boiling (or very hot) water in the bucket might open up the pores of the wood and accelerate the waterlogging process. Hope this helps. -=CG=-
@SeverumGuy Not tired of you posting at all! I appreciate your time and input! We've decided on the Fluval FX5 for our filtration, and lighting is still a bit undecided. Thanks for the suggestions and commentary about the various forms of "night" lighting. -=CG=-
There's a couple things that could be causing this problem.
Priming
With regard to priming, Reflex1 hit the nail on the head... the 405 needs to be filled up with 2gal [IIRC] of water before reattaching your intake and output hoses. The seal is also very important, if it is letting any air...
In addition to the research, I know that patience is key here. I refuse to go rush out to my LFS and buy a fist full of the purtiest plants I can find. My animals are my children and I want to create an environment they can thrive in. I certainly don't want to have a bunch of dying plants in...
