    New and needing some help!

Good advice, forgot to mention the effect on pH (which, I guess, is how it can be harmful) and sap. Dishwasher treatment is a good idea as well, especially if you didn't have the change for the car wash. Although, my OCD ways would probably provoke me to cycle the dish washer without soap first...

    New and needing some help!

Well...It may sound a little crazy, and I encourage you to ask around and do your own research (my version may be a little excessive). When I found the stump, I took it to a car wash and put the high pressure hose to it (no soap or scrubbing, only water). I took the stump and put it in a...

    Rate My River Tank

Thanks. I love these fish. They are very curious little fish without swim bladders. They hangout on the bottom, and use the pelvic fins like hands (which is how they can hang on to the substrate in a riffles: moderate to high flow velocity river habitat). They are very fast in short distances...

Yes. About 10 small fish all together. Check out the pics in the album: Aquarium Advice - Aquarium Forum Community - View Profile: crqwdaddy

Post some pics when your finished. Sounds like a cool idea. I might make the same switch, if I come up with some sand darters.

    New and needing some help!

Thanks. That is my attempt to replicate a riffle/pool sequence river habitat. I wanted to give my fish (which are in their breeding colors and quite territorial for the moment) plenty of places to retreat from one another.

    Rate My River Tank

Do you have any recommendations for low light tanks that are within my temperature parameters? I am wanting to upgrade my lighting system, but unfortunately I cannot afford the upgrade. I have 2-15 watt Regular output T8 aquarium lamps and my temperature parameters are b/w 69 and 72 degrees...

    River Tank Setup Ideas

Ya, ok. I have seen it before. My fish aren't herbivores. They seem to like the plants I have put in there so far. My orangethroats (the colorful ones) are in their breading colors now, and I believe that one of the bigger females are trying to spawn. So, I have been looking for plants (like...

    New and needing some help!

I am on the river all the time doing fish research, and I stumble across pieces of driftwood and river rock often. I have considered collecting driftwood, treating them to make it tank safe, and trying to sell them on ebay or trading out with local aquarium business for credit. Check out my link...

    River Tank Setup Ideas

Thanks for the comment. I have worked pretty extensively on the setup, but I am not completely satisfied that I have accomplished what I have set out to do. Sorry, but I am not sure what you mean by "jungle val". Would you mind elaborating on that? I am new to the aquaria trade, but learning...

    River Tank Setup Ideas

Well, native would be ideal for my fish but I am open to other ideas. Anything riverine for sure. I posted some pics of what I am currently working with under my profile. http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/members/59216-albums9085-picture35170.jpg

    River Tank Setup Ideas

I am thinking about redesigning my 55 gallon tank, as soon as I get my tank fully cycled and make the transition to a newly acquired canister filter. I really want a well defined river (riffle/pool sequence) habitat, and I am taking in any suggestions that anyone may have. I like my setup but I...

    New and needing some help!

Thanks for the encouragement Gish. I began with some nitrifying bacteria (in liquid form) that was somewhat undersized for the tank I have, and added 5 hardy fish 24 hrs later. Then I got excited and added to many fish too quickly (+ 25 more fish less than a day after the first 5 were added)...

    New and needing some help!

All of the fish with the exception of a few are local native fish that I caught myself, and their sizes range from 1" to 3" (that being the hogsucker and they do get fairly large). Originally, I wanted to set up a river tank with a riffle/pool sequence and stock it with some native FW fish. It...
