computer fans mounted in the hood to circulate the air helps coolong. some surplus electronic stores sell them for $10 ea.
what type of external ciculation pump? i have also used a fan directly on some pumps to reduce heat transfer to the water. HTH.
glad to hear it went ok. did you at least get rid of the fleas (or cats ;) )
ive used them w/o a problem.
for the future: all air pumps off, hob filters off, canister filters and heater can be left on and then covered. a low bioload should be ok for 3-4 hours
a 10G w/ 2 dividers (1 clear/1 opaque)(or 3 triangulated) is a good way to maintain and enjoy their displays.
when their ready to spawn remove 1 and add some females (use the divider to prevent agression) then remove the male to raise the young. all in the same 10 gallon.
good idea! connect the minimum equipment to maintian the system. usually just the filter is sufficient.
bigger is better here. run time is based on the power consumption of connected equipment.
if its real valuable (read reef) then a gas powered generator may be worth the investment

keep it in the shade and algae is less of a problem. snails are a good solution if algae becomes a problem. dark material should also help. adding plants competes w/algae for nutrients
you should be able to keep 5-6 goldies in there (start small).
does it freeze? if so that could be problem. no...
if this is your first tank i vote cichlids. much more entertaining to view.
mixing of lake tanganyika or victoria and lake malawi species usually results in aggression of 1 over the other. in a tank of that size stick with one or the other. i prefer tanganyika.
