Usually you just need to take out the carbon (if you have a carbon filter) if the filter is one of the all in one filter packs then just take it out....... You should run a filter of some sort just to keep the water moving but if you only have one filter then the qt tank can survive a little...

I agree with Ferret, south american cichlids are the only ones you can keep with an Oscar (ph parameters wise). But many Cichlids either don't get large enough quick enough or don't get large enough period and will most likely become a tasty meal for the oscar at one point or another...... Also...

Just an update........ Things are great! The Bio-Spira did the trick! I even added two more and a type of cat that i forget the name as of right now. The tank has never been better, literally! Thanks for all your help!

betas are aggressive but if it is only happening with new fish that is probably why.... honestly I have never had much luck with betas (they always have been very aggressive for me)......even the cichlid tank I have now isn't as bad as the old tanks (I used to have) with one beta and other misc...
