white tips on fins, very odd w/ picture

They're totally normal on serpae tetras and are one thing that distinguish them as serpaes versus other tetras in the same genus. No need to worry!

    Some newish 10g pics...pic spam!

Upgrading is not an option unless I want to pay my school a couple hundred bucks. I'm aware the load is a little heavy (especially with the pleco, but he is, as stated, temporary). I have an oversized filter (Whisper 20i, rated 125 GPH), do PWCs once to twice a week, and feed every other day...

    Ram Numbers?

I got a pair of hi fin GBRs about 3 weeks ago. They're doing great so far. Pics in the thread linked below. http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f19/some-newish-10g-pics-pic-spam-121108.htm

    Some newish 10g pics...pic spam!

I have some new(ish) additions to my 10g, so it seemed appropriate to post some pics! First is an ABN who is living here temporarily until my mom can take him home. Not new, but my 5 serpae tetras have colored up even better here at school than they did at home! They're wonderfully...

Can't get the PH up Help Please

As has been said, the replacing water is a problem. Don't do a 100% water change though! That would shock the fish as they have slowly adjusted to the high TDS in the water and a sudden drop (not to mention the sudden rise in pH) would do far more harm than good. Do small, frequent water...

    Ram Numbers?

I know about the serpae tetras' reputation, but mine haven't bothered anything (bigger or smaller than them) or each other; if I felt they would be a problem, I wouldn't have even considered adding more fish. They're certainly a YMMV fish though! Thanks for the pic, that helps a TON! I think...

    Ram Numbers?

There's already a small school of tetras in there, haha. Looks like even more reading for me before I can really decide.

    Ram Numbers?

Thanks for the info! I'm not really interested in a breeding pair...would one be okay or would a pair be a whole lot better?

    Ram Numbers?

I've read and heard a lot of things saying that a 10g is fine for a pair? If they're wrong, then I'll definitely rethink it!

    Ram Numbers?

I have an Amazon-ish "biotope" that I feel needs something more. I've decided I want to attempt to get back into cichlids after years of convicts, but still keep the community tank. I have 2 great LFS stores near me that I'm visiting Saturday. One has an UNREAL selection of rams. I'm talking...

    Pleco rumour, is it true?

Regardless, a pleco is not a good tankmate for goldfish. Plecos are tropical while goldfish aren't.

What kind of fish is this?

definitely giant gourami, but no dropsy (no pineconing scales, no popeye)...probably constipated or massively overfed

    Frogbit frustration

It's a 10 gallon. According to The Ultimate Aquarium Calculator @ petfish.net, I have a low-med light but the frogbit was about 2 inches below the light.

    Frogbit frustration

About a week and a half ago, I purchased some frogbit. Its roots had kind of melted off during transport, but for a week or so it absolutely flourished sprouting roots and new plants then all of a sudden, it died. No changes in temp, lighting, or anything. Right now, I have 2 9w CFLs and the...

    comunity tank problems, fish dieing

Don't worry about pH. I have healthy, vibrant neons in 8.2-8.6 pH. They could have just been weaker fish. Some loss is normal. The platies and guppies could have been lost due to stress. How many males and females do you have of each? If females don't outnumber males 2 or 3 to 1, then you...
