Thanks guys! Yeah, I love the quote. It says so much in so few words.

    125 Africans

Just removed my sand from my 125 african tank and changed to crushed coral mixed with white gravel. Also, re-aquascaped it while I was in there. Took several hours and still waiting on the water to clear up (gravel dust still there no matter how much I rinsed!). But, anyway, thought I...

    Canister filters

Yeah, I've got 3 XP3s and have loved them since day one...no problems. I think there are just lemons every now and again, just like with everything else on the consumer market.

You may also try Petsolutions.com They often have better prices than anyone I've found. Drs. Foster and Smith is my second choice. Both ship quickly and have good deals on a regular basis.

    Tank Prices

I honestly can't remember what I paid for my 29 gallon setup. I would look at several local pet shops as well as the chains before I made my decision. For example, I buy all my tanks at one shop about 50 miles from my house because they have deals that you can't beat anywhere else in the...

Some use crushed coral for obtaining a higher pH, some use sand, some normal gravel. I have sand in my African tank.

Best Filter For New 55 gal?

I'm at work and can't remember the brand and am having a hard time finding it on the internet. I get it at Petsmart of all places. There's several yards of it in a package. I run it in three XP3 canister filters and two emperors total and one pack lasts me months. It's about four or five dollars...

Best Filter For New 55 gal?

I wouldn't worry too much about having the carbon in there at all as long as things are going well in the tank. I use those media cartridges to house mechanical media...I buy the bulk media and cut it to fit in there. Haven't bought a "Rite Size E" cartridge for my emperors in a LONG time...

Best Filter For New 55 gal?

The HOBs I've had experience with keep the water a tad bit more clear than canisters, but canisters are easier to mess with long term and quieter.

The Rena XP3 would also be a good choice. Perhaps an XP3 and a Penguin 200....your water should be sparkling.

    Water Logging??????????

You can adhere it to a piece of slate and bury the slate under the gravel if soaking it doesn't work.
