    A Few Stocking Questions Please

Cool, I'll definitely check out the Honey Gouramis. That would make a nice interesting tank I think. Thanks everybody for the advice! Deacon

    A Few Stocking Questions Please

Thanks Rivercats, I'm surprised to hear that about the Tetras. I ran the config on AqAdvisor and it said I would be OK with 2/5/5 of Guppies, CPDs, and DTs respectively. I was under the impression that AA was generally pretty conservative, but that all rumor of course. It was specifically a...

    A Few Stocking Questions Please

Hmmm, I have always kept 3 or 2 males, and they usually seem to make fast friends. There is a local fish store chain that has very healthy looking stock and reputedly gets them from a high end fish supplier. I could get the guppy from them. They seem to have trouble getting CPDs though...

    A Few Stocking Questions Please

Thanks for the quick replies! The issue I have with a larger quarantine tank is just room to put it in my house. If a 1 gal is too small, I almost wonder if just adding the Guppy to the main tank might not just wind up being better as long as I keep an eye on him. I'll need to check out adding...

    A Few Stocking Questions Please

Hey all, I was in here asking some cycling advice a few weeks back and you all really helped me out. I was hoping for your advice again. I'm running a Aqueon Bowfront 16gal, air stone, Aqueon 10 filter. After some cycling trauma, I have the tank fairly well settled down now with still just a...

The Agony of Defeat!!! (Advice Requested)

Thanks again LG! Checked the tank again tonight. Less than 0.25 ppm ammonia, 0 nitrites. Another 30% water change. I'll see how it looks tomorrow, but I'm heartened that the ammonia and nitrites are dropping by themselves. I'll try the pellets; will certainly be cleaner. :thumb: Deacon

The Agony of Defeat!!! (Advice Requested)

Update OK, so here's the status update: 1. Friday afternoon, I checked the water again and found easily 4 ppm ammonia, and 0.25 to 0.5 Nitrites. Did 60% tap water change with Prime. I also checked the filter cartridge. It was very muddy, which makes sense since the first week or two, I...

The Agony of Defeat!!! (Advice Requested)

I just thought they learned that from me! OK, so 60% to start, wait a few hours and repeat until I get those numbers down. If I'm losing this battle, come Monday I'd still feel better for the fish if I took them out. But then I am back to the drawing board. How close should I get my water...

The Agony of Defeat!!! (Advice Requested)

Thanks for the replies! It's actually a 16 gal tank. It just that it's 13 gal more than my two guppies were living in for a year ;) No extra food fell in that I know of and I vacuum the gravel when I change the water so I should have gotten the worst of it, if it did. As it stands, I only put...

The Agony of Defeat!!! (Advice Requested)

Ah, the best laid plans.... After establishing my first 3 gal tank the hard way, I decided to set up a 16 gal bowfront and do it properly this time. I started with a fishless cycle using food, but switched to pure ammonia around week two because I thought it would be cleaner for the fish in...

    Getting Started the Painful Way

Thanks again, all. The price is not really the issue, it's just the size of the place. The Biorb sits on about the last free horizontal surface in the place. I actually just came back from Petsmart sizing other tanks and I just can't figure where I would put something larger...maybe higher...

    Getting Started the Painful Way

Hey, Thanks for the great advice. I had actually already read your article after I found out that I needed to cycle my tank but ALREADY had fish. The news about the tank being too small for even the smallest fish is quite disheartening. Other than a Betta, are there no fish that could be...

    Getting Started the Painful Way

Good day all, This is my first post here, though I've certainly combed through the site in my "fire brigade" attempt to start up a Baby Biorb (4 Gal). I chose the Biorb because i have a very small condo and limited room. I, of course, made the common mistake of believing everything the nice...
