Biotope in my study, a low-tech natural aquarium « tuncalik.com – Natural Aquariums and Sustainable Life
This is very impressive! I suppose it can be done with the right balance.
I am seriously considering trying it out on a spare tank. Has anyone ever done anything like this?
It could work up to shrimp, but I find it hard to believe baby shrimp could support rapidly breeding species like guppies. It would be an extremely interesting experiment for a generally low cost.
How to Make a Self Sustaining Aquarium
Out of curiosity I was searching for examples of a self sustaining aquarium and I found this article.
Could this actually work? Has anyone had experience with a self-sustaining tank before? Any general discussion about the topic would be great!
Were your boesemani big enough to fit the shrimp in their mouths? Or did he torture them to death? If it was a case of bullying, the outcome could vary with different fish.
I see his tail when he is in it. Also, I see him come out at night and often during the day. As I am typing this he is on the outside of the ornament. I'll keep my out for him to make sure he doesn't completely vanish.
Has anyone kept ghost shrimp with boesemani rainbows? Mine are small (1-2 inches) right now, but you never know if they will go after the shrimp. Will the rainbows eat or harass the shrimp or will they be fine?
I have a small (2-3 inch) bristlenose pleco who has a tendency to hide in the mouth of the "Balinese Dragon" bubbler ornament from Petsmart. He has not gotten stuck in it and comes out at night to eat, but I'm worried he will get stuck.
Will the pleco know when he's too big to go in the...
I really would love to breed them, maybe I will get mainly males and if I want to breed them isolate a male with 2/3 females in my 10 gallon. Thanks for the input. Have you had any experience breeding threadfins or species like them?
I have 3 threadfin rainbows in my 36 gallon and I want to get around 3 more because they are schooling fish. Right now, I have 1 male and 2 females.
If I get more is it better to keep the 1:2 male to female ratio? Or is it okay to get more males than females (for display purposes)? I am mainly...
Don't worry, I always put in an algae wafer and/or shrimp pellets for my BN pleco and cory cats. I usually have to split the algae wafer because my BN is greedy.
6-7 harlequin rasboras
5 peppered cory
5 julii cory
1 bristlenose pleco
6 threadfin rainbowfish
Would this work? This goes over the standard 1 inch per gallon, but I have seen tanks with as many cory cats as gallons plus other fish.
