The problem with micro tanks for people new to fish tanks is that it is harder to manage the water and could wake up to all dead fish in the morning i would get atleast a 20 gallon as it is actually easier to care for then a 5 gallon aquarium and the best part is you can put More fish in it.

first question was the gravel wet? live was the tank working when u got it .... live fish were in it? because if so the gravel has good bacteria in it that is helping your tank with cycling
