How long did it take your tank to cycle?

My tank cycled pretty quickly as well. When I got to the point you are at, I started stocking my cleaning crew. I also bought my first fish and put him in qt. Since the fish needed a couple weeks in qt, that gave me time to make sure that the cycle really was complete.

    DIY acrylic tank

I've used Weld-on #4 for pieces which were cut with a carbide-tipped blade on a radial arm saw. Make sure you scrape along the edges with the back of a hacksaw blade before glueing. Check out this link: http://home.earthlink.net/~kenuy/acrylic1.htm

    power compacts

Current USA makes a 30" 2x65. That's what I have on my 37gal, but I'm contemplating getting a 36" 2x96 to replace it. The 65w bulbs are only ~22" long, so you have 3-4 inches at the sides of the tank without light directly above. It's not real noticeable to the eye, but I want to try and get...

How to keep JUMPERS in your tank???

Are you sure it's metal eggcrate and not the plastic with a "metallic" coating? That's the kind I have bought, but I haven't used it yet since I don't have any fish that I'm worried about yet. I just used a pair of diagonal cutters to snip it.

How to keep JUMPERS in your tank???

I've thought about using plexiglass. You can drill holes in it for better gas-exchange. Since it won't be supporting anything, you can use a pretty thin sheet.

    Online purchase?

While I agree that ordering during the colder months of the year isn't a great idea, I wouldn't base that concern on the airplane. It's always cold at 35,000 feet :) My concern would be with the temperatures at the sorting facilities and on the delivery truck.

    Old AGA 37gal tank

I've got a 37 gal AGA tank from the 80s. I've got a question about the plastic molding on the top, the piece that a lid would rest on. It has a center support running from the front to back. I assume this was for support of the lid/light, and has nothing to do with the structural integrity of...

i have 2 pictures needing identity

Green Star Polyp I posted a very similar picture a couple days ago, and got the same response...either porites or GSP. Mine has grown a little bit and looks just like yours now. I'm guessing GSP as well.

    Aquatraders

I don't know anything about the quality of the products. Just making a guess at the business model. They seem like a closeout/liquidator type of operation. Possibly they bought the inventory from Jebo if/when they went out of business. As for the skimmer, they may be purchasing...

First time to fill it up.

Do you have a substrate? Is the tank filled all the way to the top? The tank may be a 55 gallon tank, but you may have less than 50 gallons of water in there.

    Live rock growth

Light is PC 2x65 on a 37 gal. This piece of rock is probably about 15" deep. The rock is only 3 weeks old, "pre-cured" Fiji from liveaquaria. Until I noticed this guy, everything else I've found on the rock so far is either coralline or tube worm. It's just too small for me to get any...

    Live rock growth

Thanks. After searching on both, I'm leaning towards some type of porites. It's so small that it's hard to tell. Tomorrow when the lights are on I'll try to get a better look. It seems that the porites are pretty demanding of high light levels, but this is somewhat deep (15"), under PC, and...

    Live rock growth

Now that my snails have cleared off a lot of the algae I'm noticing a lot of coralline growth on my Fiji rock. I also noticed this, can anybody identify it . The whole thing is maybe 1 cm square. The little circles are small tubes, maybe a couple millimeters tall. The base is a sort of...

    live rock

Just as an FYI, the liveaquaria.com rock is shipped from California.

    Premix question

Thanks for the input, folks. I'm probably being overly cautious. The copper test kit I have only indicates .25 ppm up to 4 ppm. There is definitely a slight color on my test, but without any greater precision, the best I can say is "it's less than .25". (On the water company report, it says...
