The norm would be a 10% water change once a week. More often if your having problems with nitrate or other things.

You can get cheap window tint at Walmart, just tape it down, that stuff is probably better suited to this than car windows!

All of them I have seen are an empty plastic pop bottle. It may not be very efficient, but for a qt tank with only a few worms in it, it will probably work, it will be better than my HOB filter.
