Really annoyed with Deep Blue SolarXtreme ...very annoyed, any suggestions?

I have the Deep Blue Solar Extreme 48" T5HO light -I've had it for 7 months . 1.stock lights suck -replaced with better light bulbs 2. I just broke the suspension tabs...again (tiny and flimsy plastic tabs). And the provided legs are too short -can't even open the glass top. 3. The blue lights...

Just in case you thought anemones were safe

A new curious hermit crab was climbing rocks and bumped into my anemone and the anemone started latching on - I gently pulled the hermit crab away and all was well. Would an anemone be able to pull out a hermit from its shell? I have a condy anemone and one of my fish was stung once and then it...

What do you think of moonlights?

So its been 12 days. I did 4 nights with moonlights, 4 nights without moonlights, and 4 days of white light only. Without moonlights the anemone (test subject) would generally close up for the night within the first hour of the lights being shut off. With moonlights on the anemone would stay...

    Falling frags

I have used the putty - Its not "sticky" but you can mold it to fit into a crack or a hole. The set back for me is that it is white and it looks out of place for a couple of months.

What do you think of moonlights?

According to Mr. Oliver Crimmen, Fish Curator, Department of Zoology of The Natural History Museum Fish do in fact need sleep - although they do not exhibit the same REM brain patterns, their sleep has restorative properties. Parrot fish secrete a mucus to protect themselves while they sleep...

What do you think of moonlights?

Last night I had the moonlights on (they have been consistently on for 2 weeks) Last night he did not close up the whole night and did not close the whole day (today) either. he has decided to move onto the glass about 4 inches away from his usual spot (his usual spot for past 2 months has been...

What do you think of moonlights?

I guess I will carry out an experiment and take pictures of how the anemone reacts to the different lights. I will take pictures during several nights of moonlights on, and pictures during several nights of moonlights off. I will also take pictures of how the anemone reacts to the turning on of...

What do you think of moonlights?

From what I understand (correct me of I am wrong), moonlights are meant to simulate the moon at night which is good for spawning and also beneficial for coral growth. Moonlights are low power blue light that is not perceivable to fish. When I used to have fish, during nighttime (with...

    Fighting ich !!! :(

Fallow tank means that the tank has to be completely void of fish for 6-8 weeks (some has suggested 4 weeks as well). You can keep inverts in because they are not carriers of the parasite. If there are no hosts (aka fish) the parasite starves and dies. You thus have a ich-free display tank...

    Identification Please!!!

I believe its a condy as well. Mine has purple/pink tips and a pink foot. Be careful though, from what I have read they tend to move around even in a well established tank and then might sting other inhabitants. From personal experience, it has very sticky tentacles. But one of my favorite...

    Tank dreams

I had a dream recently that zoas were a drug and when hermits ate them they would be all odd. So all the hermits ate the zoas and they started dancing in circles and doing crazy things like climbing the glass and they started to look like Sebastian from the Little Mermaid. And the anemones...

Do you keep your own tank journal?

My journal (aka fish book) has all the notes about tank parameters, notes about interesting species that I stumble upon, care sheets, diagrams of various equipment, etc. It lists current set-up and what I would like in the future. It's nice to have a book of semi-organized information.

This is what I wake up to

I used to have a 20L with african cichlids. My cat would lay on top of the glass and watch the fish for hours. (I had to cover all the spots which had access to water because he was trying to catch them) He eventually stopped one day when the versa-top broke and he fell into the water. Now he...

    durso "flushing" in new 75g

Try putting airline tubing in the drain pipe - sort of push it in as see at which point it stops making noise. When / if you find the sweet spot, clamp it into place. I read that it could help - i had the same air gurgling/flushing noise, an the airline tubing helped but then I asked lfs and...
