the algae that was taking over was the Caulerpa taxifolia.. if i let my rocks sit in a bucket for a couple weeks in HIGH salted saltwater.. should that kill it all? because it was on all of my rocks in my tank.. i have no idea where or how it came.

My tank went beyond any other algae bloom known to mankind.. so i broke it all down and started all over.. i was wondering how to clean off the rocks? do i scrub them under freshwater then put them back in saltwater to cure? if so how many days do they have to cure for before i put them back...

is there a way i can take my rocks that have algae on them and place them in a separate container and kill all the algae? like putting the rocks in a bucket of HIGH salted saltwater? with no light?

ok guys, ive been getting really depressed.. becuase i cannot get rid of this stupid algae in my tank.. no matter what i do. there is this new type of algae spreading ALL over in my tank. the algae looks like little palm tree leaves, they are green and they have these roots that are spreading...

what is a good specific gravity number? according to the coralife DEEP SIX I am at 1.026.. I need to add about 2 gallons of fresh water to top off and it might lower it to like 1.023.. or 1.024.. is this fine? what is the number i should not go below, and what is the number I should not go...

I got rid of most of my algae by taking most of it out with my hand.. as much as i could possible.. than i bought tons of hermit crabs to take care of the rest.. I actually took a couple of the rocks out and scrubbed them clean. tank looks great now!

i have about 10 hermits.. in a 40 gal aquarium

yeah.. ive considered one.. but as of right now.. im low on cash money! :P I will definetly invest in one for the future though.. But as of right now! i need to get rid of this NASTY algae!!

i dont know if this will help you out any... but i heard that adding 1 teaspoon of baking soda to your tank will help with alk levels in your tank.. but dont take my word for it.. i would get a second opinion on it before i would add any.

i use RO/DI water from wallmart.. i fill up those 5 gal. buckets and do water changes like that... i have snails .. but i dont think they eat the really long algae stuff.. plus i have this plant algae thats growing.. it looks like small little palm tree leaves... my lighting time is about 7...

Is there another way to get all this algae off of my rocks without having to remove all the rocks and scrub them, because its really a pain!! is there a way that i could maybe starve the algae so it will eventually all die and dissappear? or is there something that i can add to my tank that...

Is there any way to clean my protein skimmer? its soo built up with slimy stuff... i just wanna clean it and get it all out!! can i soak it in anything to break up the slimy algae stuff? like vinegar or something? i dont know! i can use a toothbrush on some areas.. but i cant get deep into the...

cool, thanks... I am using RO/DI water however.. but i went away for a while and all this algae grew in the mean time. I think im just going to get a clean-up crew, because i need one anyways.. ive never had one. Thanks. - Eric

what is the best way to get rid of a HUGE outbreak of hair algae? I left my tank for about 2 months, and came back to find little afro puffs of hair algae everywhere! some almost even the size of my fist! would a lawnmower take care of this? as well as some emerald crabs? TIA
