Well, got the new ASM G-3 skimmer. It pretty much plugged in and played with minimal adjusting tha produced about a 1/4" of skimmate overnite.
Initially the unit was pleasantly quite. (I have to admit, this may be why I subconsciously broke the old one, it was tremendously noisy and annoying)...
Thanks too everyone. After much researching and forum/web-browsing, I went with the ASM G-3. It is described as a "sister" skimmer to the Euro-reef's. For the money and also the quick shipping time (kudos to Premium Aquatics for giving me even better shipping for cheaper than what I had picked...
Hey everyone,
I accidentally busted the side of my countercurrent skimmer last night. I don't thing it is salvageable. I have a 150g that has three tangs, a mandarin, an antheus and a maroon clown currently. Right now my coral population is low. While currently this isn't to huge a bioload,I do...
I used the darkest window tint I could find at Pep Boys for a background. I think it is called Limo tint. It makes an awesome, smooth background that water cant get behind. Takes a little effort and a little money, but definitely worth it. If you decide to change it, you can just peel it off....HTH.
I drip acclimated it for two hours. It wasn't exposed to air on my watch. I worry he may have been exposed in the shipping bag however. How long would it take for signs of exposure to show up?
I received a linkia star today. It appears to have lost about half an arm in shipping. After acclimation, he seems fine in the tank. First query - could I drop the severed limb into the tank and see if it regenerates another star? I have seen where this could happen. Or would this just risk...
I had read that brains like to be on the sandy substrate (I know mine does! - anyway), I recieved some pretty ones today. They are all attached to good size pieces of live rock.
In reading, seems I recall that being placed on rock causes their flesh to receed. Should I put them on the sand on...
I just ordered a carnivore pack from reef nutrition (or the site they sell through - Reeds I think - there is a link) On their site the give acclimation and breeding procedure information. HTH

Thanks for all the nice comments. I will try to answer some of your questions... The tank is up since December. I was lucky to find some nice live rock from existing reef tank for around 6 bucks a pound the mushrooms and pulsing xenia came in on that and took off. Then it was just being...
What is a good way to get some fauna growth populating my live rock to help support a mandarin. I have a 150g reef with around 200-250 lbs of LR, almost all of which came from established reef tanks. Are there any formulations containing critters? Are the "Reef Bugs" preparation suitable for...
Hi. I used to keep and breed discus (before the internet craze!) and while a newbie on this forum, consider myself an old hand at fw and especially discus. I found that a chemi-pure filter element really helped maintain my water levels. Peat is good, but can take a while and may discolor your...
