The aluminum is fine as long as it has separate reflectors for each bulb. It will cause the bulbs to interfere with each other's lighting if they shine at each other. Reflector dividers is always the best, but the white ones prevail for sure. Full reflection

Hard telling from my end. I've had them just fall apart after a short run. If it did this, you should be able to get a warranty. It's such a bummer for new stuff being a lemon!

I would pull the magnet (impeller) and make sure that the plastic blades are connected to the magnet and verify that they spin freely roughly 270 degrees before hitting a stop. Also make sure the shaft is intact and has no wobble from side to side

I don't recall right off how to open the canister. If you get it open, there should be a spot for water to flow in and out through the lid. One of these two has cylindrical magnet on a shaft with plastic blades on the end of the magnet

I guess I should point out "over feeding" isn't quite what I meant. Sometimes a little extra food gets caught at the filter contributing to plugging it up. I have a horrible habit of leaving the pump running when I feed, but most of mine is target feeding. :)

I'm not familiar with the media basket for the Coralife models. I have the Oceanic model. If you have a local air conditioning supplier, you can pickup yards of the media for pennies on what you pay at your lfs. I often rinse it out in the water I pull for weekly water exchanges and reuse it...
