    Cichlid Rookie

This is the best aquarium forum on the net. You guys rock... Ok, here's my follow up question(s)... Can I put a couple of shellies with one or two Pelvicachromis pulchers? I really like both fish, but would there be any combatability issues? Also, why aren't there ever plants in a cichlid...

    Cichlid Rookie

I felt bad by writing "true" cichlids - didn't want to offend anybody... What I should have said was "African cichlids".... I've got a pair of Veiltale Rams in my community tank but I'd like to get some African cichlids. From what I've researched, they have different Ph requirements, etc... so I...

    Cichlid Rookie

I just bought a 20 gallon tank. I'd love to make it a cichlid tank, but I'm not sure if it's large enough. I know I can do rams, (I love the rams in my 55), but I wanted to make this a "true" cichlid tank. Is this do-able? I don't want to over crowd the fish... Thanks, Flei

    "New" BEAUTIFUL fish!

I wish our LFS stocked those - even at $14. We have three types of rainbows here (I have a weekly circuit of the 4 LFS's in my area) - Bosemani's, Australian, and Turquoise. They charge $13 for young Bosemani's...

    Blue German Ram-bunctious?

I've got a 55 with a few rainbows, and some tetras. I have recently discovered GBR's (my LFS just got some in). Would those get a long well in a community tank? The tank is planted, has a cave (apparently they like caves), and no aggressive fish. Ideally, I'd like to add a male and female...

    Driftwood Turbo

Just for the record (and the tree huggers out there), I had to prune the tree anyway, so I decided to use a stick or two for my tank... ...but yes the branches were alive. Of course I'm not telling wifey, because she wouldn't let me do it either !!!

    Driftwood Turbo

Has anybody ever tried this? If not, I'll document what happens... I've cut some "driftwood" from one of the Yoshimo Cherry trees in my yard. I know that I need to let it dry out before I use it. My question is this: If I put the sticks in the oven, on its' lowest setting (180 degrees...

    Why are aquariums so addicting?

I started with a 10 gallon goldfish tank. The gold fish grew too large, so I needed to upgrade. The funny thing is, I remember thinking "This tank is so large that it will be the ultimate - the last tank I will ever want to get" HA!!! Little did I know that I was simply opening Pandora's...

    Un-Graveled...?

That's good news. I like the white color, and (at the time of purchase) I didn't think sand wasn't really an option with how I planned on doing my hardscaping. Here are some pics to get an idea of what I've got so far. It's my first attempt at a planted tank. I've got a Yoshimo Cherry Tree...

    Un-Graveled...?

I've got your typical PetSmart white gravel. Surprisingly, I like how it looks now that I've scaped it a bit. I am more wondering from a long-term plant nutrients standpoint. I've got about 15 plants in there now (variuos anubias, 1 onion plant, 1 Java fern, 3 Wisteria, several Cryptocoryne...

    Un-Graveled...?

Hindsight... I've got a 55g tank that I'm in the process of planting. Everything seems to be going just fine (with the exception of a small brown algae bloom:confused:). My question is this: Should I change to a different substrate? Is that even possible without taking everything out and...

    SW 10 Gallon Experiment

I've got a 10 gallon tank that is begging to be used for something... I've never had a SW tank before (lots of large and small FW's), and I know that the smaller the tank, the more careful you need to be. Having said that, what equipment would I need to purchase? Can I use any of my FW stuff...

    Why are aquariums so addicting?

I've got a few theories as to why we are all either staring at, writing about, reading about, or think about aquariums all day... Not in Order - Interest in life in general (aquatic life specificly) - The Farmville/Sims Factor (aquariums are like "God" games - you design a world, and see how...

Anything that would kill only male Boesemanis?

Had the same prob If any body can figure this out... I had a similar problem where I lost 2 male Boesemani's. I had a third Bos that was about to die (not eating, barely swimming, gasping for air at the surface). :( I took him out and put him in a 10 gallon QT. He isn't happy in there, and has...

How much money do you have into our hobby so far?

This is all in a 120gallon. I'm a rare coral collector... It's painful on my wallet. :/ Man, you got to post a pic of the 9Grand Tank. It's just one of those things you need to see.
