I just saw this thin little centipede looking worm sticking out of my lr. It was a light brown color on 1/3 of it's body and the rest of the 2/3 was dark. Any ideas? He's gone now, so no pic :(
My tank is 1 mo old - sill getting diatoms on the glass and sand. I tested the water after this weekend's pwc and have 0's across the board including po4, no3. I also went to Reef Salt from IO. Not sure what else to do, just wait?
You know I've done ALL of those things short of a protein skimmer? But I just read that intresting thread on the best salt and wouldn't ya know I use IO...very interesting. Is the red color on the rock Cyano?
My lfs recommended that I use a scrubbing brush (similar to a kitchen or bathroom brush) and scrub my lr of any undesirable algae. I am hesitant to do this, but thought it could be helpful. Does anyone on the forum practice scrubbing their lr? What algae colors would be considered...
Here's a picture - Do I have any excess nutrients? Unless you count po4 which is still on the low end, I would think my nutrients are good. Is 48 watts and a 10.5 hour daytime schedule too much light? Also I have the outflow pointed up to maximise surface movement, should I have the outflow...
EDIT: lights 2 pwc 24watt, 1 actinic, 1 10k - it's a 2 month old bio cube
clean up crew is 4-5 hermits and 4-5 snails, i can't remember since I bought it as a "clean-up crew" from the lfs
I did a pwc yesterday and vacuumed the sand bed to get rid of this brownish yellow stuff growing on my sand. Can anyone tell me what it is and how to get rid of it long term?

Just angling the outlet nozzle down, did away with most of the cyano.
The pump puts out flow in the ball park 140+ gph (I can't remember the exact specs). I would think that would be enough - I'll move this to another forum if this becomes more of a problem.
Thanks so much for your help.
I meant to ask about that too! Thanks for spotting that. It isn't in a cycle, I had the pump pointing up to add more ripple to the surface, I can point it down to move in that direction. What causes the cyano to grow?

Say Hello to Popcorn and Dash as named by my 3 & 5 yr old boys :)
So far they are shying away from the reef. I hope that they get to the point where they swim in and out of the cave. Even the entrance from the front since its much bigger.
I fed them a teensy bit of flake...
