Ps.: Forgot about thus one... FTS of the now re-scaped tank... Any opinions? I think it looks better now... Sorry about the darkness, I'm still taking photos on my iPhone, and that's the only way to take a decent enough shot because of the brightness of the lights...

Gary's first dip in the salt (build/journal thread)

Hello again... Here's a bit of an update on how things are progressing! So... I think everything is in good order, the cycle is going well, and I found plenty of critters that came with the live rock. There are red, green, pink Christmas tree worms, all sorts of sand dwelling worms, couple of...

That's exactly how I feel rebelyeller89... I'm sure I'll get used to things though.. Not much news today, apart from realizing that my ph is low because of the cycle probably.. Apparently the cycle process lowers ph, so I read... Is that right? It's at 7.8 now and has been that way for two days...

Great to know Erik! Thanks.. I'll see how it goes and I'm sure it will disappear, I'm just being a wee bit overly worried about everything probably as this is my first go at an SW setup...

Thanks Carissa, I think I'll be going with using a shrimp myself as I couldn't find any pure ammonia with no added chemicals... Another thing, I noticed that a sort of film has formed on the top of the water that I can't seem to get rid of even with pointing the powerheads at the surface... I...

So the sand has settled more or less.. Good enough to turn equipment on again anyways... I tested the water today as well to see how everything is after the first three days and the results are: PH: 7.8 (possible because the powerheads were off yesterday due to the sand, so there was hardly...

So, I got the rock (about 50lb Indonesian live rock and 10-15lb base rock) and sand in the tank... It's a "bit" murky at the moment, but it should settle in a day or two I think... Here's a wee update..

Hello again.. So, it's been a while since I posted anything on here, but there hasn't really been any progress regarding the tank, apart from acquiring all the necessities. Anyways, I have finally reached what I've been waiting for, and now I have 200l of saltwater mixing, it has been sitting...

Rick, thanks for the advice.. I will most definitely keep to it, and do my best to avoid such a disaster. Likewise Hank, it's good to see people stay true to their heritage regardless of where they live! I wish I could have gone bigger myself, but I already had the 50gal tank, and I don't think...

First time on the salty side and in need of some info

Rick, that sounds good, I'll go with a 3-4" sand bed so, and will add a fuge once I get some more space to play with. Have you got any advice about how to prepare for such an event in case the sand gets stirred up? I quite like gobies myself, so good to know that I can still house them without...

First time on the salty side and in need of some info

Of course it helps, thank you very much! It's awesome to get so much good info without being pressured to buy stuff... I think I'll just go with the normal media for starters, (without chemical filtration) and see if I run into any trouble.. Hmm, phosphate test kit is going on the shopping...
