    Mold on canopy (saltwater tank)

So, I've been on vacation for the past two weeks. My roomie has been feeding the fish, etc. When I came back, the fish were happy... all the parameters were good. I was so relieved. Then... as I was pulling down the top of the canopy I noticed white/green "puffy" or fuzzy mold. I won't blame...

    Making Water Change Water

Yes - prime is a dechlorinator... My pH out of tap is ~7.8 Test results... Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite - 0 TDS ~90 My water company says they don't use any chloramines. Basically, where I live (Gainesville, FL) we supposedly have some of the best water in the state. Thank you for your input!

    Making Water Change Water

Alright... so right now I don't have a RODI unit. I plan to have something by August though... Anyway, I'm trying to make a next step by not taking water directly from the tap and then mixing chemicals. So, I bought a few five gallon jugs... added water, salt, Seachem Prime, and some pH stuff...

    Sand question

I'm personally trying to choose between: http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=CS0793 http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=CS0790 I'm really torn. I think the finer sand would look pretty nice, but I don't want sand tossed and turned. So, I'm leaning more...

    Custom Sump/Fuge

Now that's a smart idea! Good thing I didn't get any PVC/plumbing yet. LOL. I'll get two of those flow meters. One for the phosban reactor and one for the refugium. 10 ft - Vinyl Tubing 3/4" 2 Y Fittings 1 Flare Nozzle for the refugium 2 Ball valves 1.5 ft - 1" PVC pipe to go from...

    Custom Sump/Fuge

One overflow box. I just noticed something... very interesting. I have an All-Glass Megaflow 90G. http://www.all-glass.com/products/aquariums/megaflow.shtml It says GPH = 600. My return pump is doing ~900GPH at 5ft. This may be an issue in of itself, but it seems like I need to restrict...

    Custom Sump/Fuge

Gonna get an RO/DI unit with float valve... get a hole drilled at about 11"... that's what the people over at http://airwaterice.com/ suggested. Thank you for your advice... hopefully this will come alive within the next week or so. EDIT Alright... something I slightly overlooked. How the...

    Custom Sump/Fuge

Wow... I really appreciate your opinions. It's really helping me out! This is it without that first baffle. I'm not at home so I don't have photoshop to edit the original. However, fuge would now be closer to 10" wide. If I get 1/4" thick glass... I should be pretty well off. I really want...

    Custom Sump/Fuge

Wouldn't the backflow go to where the return pump is? If that's the case, then the refugium can be 18" since the return pump area is only 10" high. I'll take your advice though and lower the last baffle down an inch... To answer the other question... yes, the return pump will power the phosban...

    Custom Sump/Fuge

I've been trying to get some additional input on my custom sump/fuge. Since this is my first DIY project, I'm a bit intimidated. I have a 90G reef tank... currently have a wet/dry. The return pump will supply the phosban... I still want to have the inlet "pour" over the LR. Just seems like a...

GPH & Lighting - Good enough?

I have a 90 G tank. Right now I have a wet/dry... but a sump/fuge is in progress :) Here it is: Pumps / Powerheads Surge 7500 Return Pump 1070 gph Rio 1700 Protein Skimmer 625 gph Maxi-Jet MP600 Power Head 160 gph Skimmer Sealife Systems Lighting Coralife 48" 2-65 watt 10,000K Daylight...

New media for Wet/Dry... Should I? What with?

Ya. A 36 "kit" would run me about $200. I would use LR rubble in place of the bioballs. One question... I read someplace else that I should put the skimmer in the return area (after the fuge) as there won't be much for it to suck up, etc. Is that true? If so, where should I place the skimmer?

New media for Wet/Dry... Should I? What with?

Ok. So I went to my LFS and told them of my idea. They told me (seriously) "never replace the wet/dry. It's vital and gives your tank plenty of oxygen it needs." Instead, they suggested I get a tank... then pump water from the wet dry to the tank. The tank (20G) would have LR rubble, macro...
