Getting back into the hobby- input please!

I've looked locally (as someone else mentioned), and haven't found any small setups. One of the main reasons I looked at the Fluval setup (on Amazon) was because they mentioned how quiet the pump, etc. are. Since I plan to have it at my desk, that's a big selling point for me. If I could...

Getting back into the hobby- input please!

I think the Fluval 5 gallon comes with most of that, and if what I read on Amazon reviews is correct, a heater fits in it nicely. Here's a link to the product page: Spec Aquarium Kit | 10516 | Aquariums & Furniture | Fluval

Getting back into the hobby- input please!

Yeah, I don't have any real specific "wants" at this point, except that it all started with the idea of a betta for my desk. I read some Amazon reviews of that Fluval Specter V, and it seemed pretty positive overall. When you start looking, it's hard to resist getting a tank that is "just a...

Getting back into the hobby- input please!

It looks like I may be getting back into the hobby after 20+ years of not having a tank. I feel like I will have to re-learn everything. I started off with the idea of getting a betta for my desk. I bought this really cool glass bowl mounted on a piece of driftwood like I had seen in Bali...

Recommend some cold water fish for a desk setup

Wow- suddenly a windfall of great info! Thanks, everyone! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm going to have to hit some fish stores on my next days off work, and look for some of the items you have mentioned. Thanks, folks!

Recommend some cold water fish for a desk setup

Wow... Why is it that I came here looking for advice on fish, and half of you want to try to give me lessons on electricity? You are wasting your time and mine. I come from a family of firefighters and electricians, so I'm not going to listen to you incessant badgering to do something stupid...

Recommend some cold water fish for a desk setup

    1. It can cause a fire. 2. It will likely blow the fuse/ trip the surge protector on the strip. Jonnythan, you have sufficiently hijacked this thread. Could someone PLEASE get it back on track with some suggestions about good fish for a cold water tank?

The outlet that is available is on the power strip. You don't add extension cords or power strips into another power strip.

Recommend some cold water fish for a desk setup

Jonnythan, don't sprain your brain on the issue! THIS IS VERY SIMPLE. I have a limited amount of outlets, and they already have power strips on them. I can't add any more. Period. This is a work environment, and I can't just unplug work-related items in order to have an aquarium. Most...

I guess I could also run a light during the day when I'm working, and let a filter run at night when I'm gone. That might be a good trade-off.

Recommend some cold water fish for a desk setup

It has a pretty stable temperature day and night, since it is a 24-hour workplace. I might just go buy one of those adhesive thermometers, and put it on a glass of water for a few days. Maybe that will give me an idea of where the water temps will be? I've been searching some websites, and...

Recommend some cold water fish for a desk setup

Thanks for taking the time to respond, but you guys are not getting the message. It has now been recommended several times that I add a power strip or get more plug-ins, and I've tried to make it quite clear. Adding an outlet or power strip is not an option, which is why I'm asking for input...

A power strip is not an option. I already have one, and it is full except for 1 spot... so it's either light or a heater.

Well, I can either plug in fish stuff or computer stuff... and since I'm at work, computer stuff wins. :) I recall having a clown loach that lived for several years, and only got to be 2-3 inches long in a 55 gallon tank. Gouramis would certainly add some nice color. Do you really think a...

Recommend some cold water fish for a desk setup

:n00b: I haven't had fish in many years, but I recently decided to get a small setup for my desk at work. I'm leaning toward something like a 5 gallon tank with a couple of fish. Since I have a very limited amount of room, it really can't be much bigger than that. I also have very limited...
