Is it a planted tank? If you have lots of hiding places then the fry might survive to bring to the lfs, otherwise they'll be eaten by the adults. Fresh food is always good. And since they don't live that long, it might be nice to have your own supply of replacement fish if you do try to save...

Sorry I missed you. My son found yet more guppies and after I went broke on plants we escaped early. The crowd gets a little much for the little guy.

Snails can be pigs, don't worry about it. The first time I gave my mystery snail an algae tab he acted like a child with a new toy... hugged it in his foot, ate for hours, finally put it down and moved away only to turn back and feel it just to make sure it was still there, and then moved away...

Glad it all worked out! Ian's advice on the plastic container is great. I've done that but used bag clips to hold it on the side instead of magnets. Wish I had thought of magnets! Your net will be fine. I tend to keep mine in a net for at least a couple of days so I can feed them heavily and...

No way to tell how long or how many. I had one that took 4 hours for only 10 fry, and another that took about 1 hour for 40 fry. Just watch the behavior and you should be able to tell when she's done - lack of shivery movements, back to eating normally, not hiding as much, etc. The fry tend to...

I'm going to Aquatic Experience, too. But mostly because my 5yo read the page faster than I did and begged to enter the kid's tank contest. Which is why I'm going to the GCCA swap - to pick up more plants to help his tank design. Things snowball, don't they? :-)

I have some free riccia (about a golfball) if someone wants to pick it up at the swap. Just post something here by 8pm Saturday. Also have a bunch of hygrophila polysperma cuttings for trade.

I'm just a bit south of you in Hawthorn Woods.

The GCCA swap is in Hillsdale... just west of Chicago. Personally, I'm closer to the WI border than downtown Chicago so call it a whole state away from St. Louis!
