Ok, thanks for that. Ill do more water changes to be safe till I can get an amonia kit .

Substrate is 2"of gravel. Tank was bought second hand but its been setup for about 4 weeks.

I have an API test kit. I change the water 1-2 times per week. I do 20-30% water changes. Thanks for the input by the way. The little lads ate growing on me and I do want to keep them in good condition.

I don't know to be honest, my test kit doesn't test for it. I have been assuming its ok because of the low nitrates.

Bare bottom tanks remind me of the pet shop, I guess they do it for cleanliness. Not sure how much mine would fancy it, they seem to play with picking up the gravel and spitting it out. I think if done right it could look very avant-garde. Not sure I gave the style to pull it off though.
