Definitely an African mbuna cichlid from lake Malawi. The fish honestly looks stressed and probably isn't showing true coloration to give a positive idea. Possible pseudtropheus elongatus..
You could probably have a group of Redfin caudopunctatus with a pair of Julie's and then possibly a type of calvus or comp.... The punks will stay in the middle water column and the Julie's would dominate rock structure...
I have kept punks before . I had 3 breeding pairs in 29 gallon. It worked but I would not try it again. you said you do not want shells but punks are border line shell dweller... I would think that you might want to put some shells in the tank if you go with punks... I think that is what kept...
Probably a little overstocked.. I believe the cyps like 6 ft tanks better than 4 ft... Bristle nose Plecoptera is a good choice.. The multis might take over that tank in time....

In not an expert and never have done this but looks like you have a big enough tank to me.. Once those brichardi pair up it won't be long for a colony to take over most of the tank...
