    Saltwater (fishless) cycling and protein skimmer question

    X2 on the skimming advice. As far as hardware that was a challenge to say the least getting it all together and figuring out what I wanted/needed. I got mine all setup though before getting any water going because I was sick of worrying about it. the last piece I need now is also a ATO system...

    After cycle is done water change question

    All I'm saying is that I thought this was the place to ask questions for people that are new to saltwater & reef. I did post this to "saltwater & reef getting started". I'm just asking a question because I'm new to the saltwater reef stuff. I thought that's what this section was for.

    After cycle is done water change question

    Like I said it's not a problem I will do it. I was just wondering if there was some other way that I haven't stumbled upon. Jeez sorry for asking a question. If I couldn't afford it I wouldn't have gotten into it in the first place.

    After cycle is done water change question

    So my cycle is about halfway done. My initial dose of 4 ammo is down to1, nitrites are off the chart and nitrates are at 20. Once the cycle is finished my nitrates should be very high. Is there any other way I can remove them other than water changes. I hate to dump this expensive salt and water...

    Saltwater (fishless) cycling and protein skimmer question

    Hi I've got my 46 bowfront up and running and fishless cycle started. I'm starting to see lower ammo and am now getting nitrites too. Right before I tested my water for ammo and nitrite I turned on my protein skimmer for the first time (SWC 120 cone). My question is will the skimmer mess up the...

    return pump head pressure question

    Ok thanks. I'm using 3/4" flexible vinyl and ordered the 3/4" valve so hopefully it will be ok but I will double check to be sure

    return pump head pressure question

    Well I went ahead and ordered a ball valve. I'm going to go ahead and try it. At least I will have options this way. I posted a link to the ball valve I ordered a couple posts ago. Do you guys think that will work ok?

    return pump head pressure question

    Would this work for me? It looks perfect for putting inline of flexible vinyl. As long as the pressure doesn't blow the whole valve off but I'm pretty sure with clamps it should be fine. That's what its designed for Barbed Aquatic Ball Valves by Two Little Fishes - AquaCave

    return pump head pressure question

    I'm using an eshopps 800gph overflow now. The 17hf is 840 gph at 4' head and the rio aqua 2500 is 529 @ 4' head. I was thinking I could just choke it back too. Only problem is I was planning on using 3/4" flexible vinyl for return. Is there a gate or ball valve that I could hook in there? The...

    return pump head pressure question

    Oh great so I took my rio17hf to the lfs(marine specialists) and the owner was almost flabbergasted that I would be using that pump on a 46 gal reef. He said its much to powerful and I should have used a regular rio aqua 2500. Great so now I have two pumps I can't/shouldn't use. He suggested I...

    New SWC 120 skimmer, proflex sump model 2 pics

    I emailed eshopps about the 2 sponges. They said they are for packaging purposes only. So mystery solved.

    New SWC 120 skimmer, proflex sump model 2 pics

    I think I figured out what those two round pieces of foam are for. I was reading somewhere that they go right next to where the water spills out of the external part of the box. I think this raises the water level just enough to not get that sucking noise from what I read. I don't have water in...

    New SWC 120 skimmer, proflex sump model 2 pics

    Ok Carey thanks. I'll be ok with a little spitting out a little saltwater. And thanks mr x on the info for getting the air out of tube. Tuesday the guy at my lfs (they specialize in saltwater and reef) is gonna plumb the drain from the box so that it will fit into the drain tube. Can't wait...
