    Brown algae/ diatoms

Thanks for the replies. I might get a snail or two. I have been keeping the lights off also. I heard that helps. I haven't checked the tap water. I change it every week.

    Brown algae/ diatoms

I have been having this issue with brown algae in my tank. It has been set up for approx 4 months now. I do weekly water changes. 15 gallons or so. My ph is around 7.8 ish. I was told it was alright as long as it stays steady. My nitrates stay around 40ppm. I'm not sure why I can't bring them...

    A couple questions

Alrighty, if the ph isn't an issue I won't worry about it that much. I will test to make sure it doesn't fluctuate. I realize that they will get too big for the tank. They are about an inch and a half long right now. I will rehome them once they get larger. I don't know how fast they grow but...

    A couple questions

First off I would like to say thank you to all of the knowledgeable people on this site. I have been on a hiatus for a while until my living situation was figured out. Now I have my 55 gallon long set up. I did a fishless cycle and my ammo is at 0 nitrites at 0 and my nitrates are still kinda...

    Tank prices?

I picked up a 55 gallon long with an iron stand, lid, filters and decorations for free off of craigslist. Just keep looking and the right deal will come along.

    Endless Ocean-Blue World

I have seen it and wanted to pick it up but wasn't sure if it would be worth it. If it will kill 200 hours of my free time I will definitely get it.

cabezon that is a good idea. I am using a shut off valve to meter the flow. I read that the outlet has to be a fast drip. Uber Thanks for the media suggestion. That is some crazy filtration to do changes that far apart.

I don't have a sump... Well I put it in a 10 gallon tank and let it run. It filled the canister and started pumping through, then I noticed it leaking at the connections on the canister where the tube goes it so I shut it off. I resealed it and I plugged it back in and nothing... Not sure yet...

So the charger out of the wall is putting out 5.16 volts and .06 amps. Not a whole lot. Let's see how it runs the pump..... Works great in the test cup. Full scale test next..

I have to bring my multimeter home from work and see what kind of power is coming out of it. I don't think I will need to pump running at full capacity anyways. I won't need that much volume of water. I understand what you are saying. I will watch it for a while and see what the heat is like...

Actually corrado that is what I was planning on doing with the Y. I am going to use an old phone charger with the adapter to plug it into the wall. They aren't normally submersible but I can wire it so I can just drop it in the tank. No big deal. I don't think they are that loud. It shouldn't be...

I should have clarified a little sorry. I don't want it to completely eliminate the water changes, just to help. I plan on having a lot of fish and I am not sure how big the bio load will be. I will still vac the gravel bed. I do agree with you corrado. They say the flow coming out should be a...
