    Dreaded Ammonia Levels!!

Many types of substrate can have adverse reactions. Just like the type "white" you desided on is most likely covered in white epoxy paint unless it is quarts or something which is expensive. Alkalinity, salt water types, live, and epoxy coated come to mind off the bat. When ever I choose...

    LED Lighting 120 Semi Planted

So I got my two coralite 30" lights set back up on my 120 gallon which is 60" long 26" deep and found the bulb wires are corroded in the plug to bulb so I have to buy new bulbs, there goes $70 right? SO I started thinking about upgrading to LED's instead but I'm running into some issues. I...

Bacteria In A Bottle? Do you use them?

I've been trying the brand Stable and so far it worked great, but if you don't have fish in it then there’s no organic material for the bacteria to eat so they stay mainly dormant like in the bottle. When I start an aquarium I do one of two things. Either use established media from a different...

    120 Setup

After more consideration I think I want over filtration. I think going up to the 1200 series is likely to be better, even though I have to buy the media. I think a Ehiem 2080 would be the better over the FX5 with more media and less power consumtion. It will just take me longer to get it up and...

    Dreaded Ammonia Levels!!

Don't even bother with Amonia Lock or any type Amino Lock. That's just another chemical that combats the problem plain and simple. I've spent so much money and time doing the same thing your semi thinking. Listen, you don't need it and it only compounds the issue especially when dealing in bio...

I think it's a Eheim model 2075, can anyone confirm that? I found them on line for like $230 which isn't too bad.

    Dreaded Ammonia Levels!!

I think I figured out your problem! If you are using a manciple water supply they could be using chlorine and Chloramine. If you use just a basic chlorine remover like API brand it will change the Chloramine into Amonia in a very short time giving you your spikes like clock work. Go down to...

    120 Setup

I've been really looking into Eheim Professional 3 as I love their design without the electronics. What model would be good for 120 gallon plus as they don't really list model numbers on their site?

    Dreaded Ammonia Levels!!

Oh, to answer your question; Again don't worry. It takes a lot of time to build up those bacteria bio-films on the bio wheels. It might just take you a year, but don't fret, it's slowly building non-the-less you just can't see it yet.

    Dreaded Ammonia Levels!!

Also it almost sounds to me like you are adding too much fresh water which is diluting your good bacteria. Also, are you de-chlorination of the tap water before you place it in the aquarium? Make sure you are matching the water temperatures before adding fresh water to your aquarium. I use a...

    120 Setup

Priced one out here in town at $377 and I'm thinking I don't want to go that high this close to Christmas. Besides I'm a Federal worker that is considered "exempt "so I have to show up for work everyday without getting paid right now thanks to the Senate. Well UGF's have been around for many...

    120 Setup

Newbie here, but not to forums. It's been about 5 years sense I had my semi pot planted setup community freshwater tank, so I've gone to the stores to see what has changed. Well quite a bit has, as usual things come and go in aquatics. Anyway, I moved which it sat in storage for a while. I...
