    Injured Dwarf Gourami

Thank you for the responses. Unfortunately, he perished overnight. I did move him to another tank with no currents and isolated him. When I woke up this morning, he was laying on the bottom of the tank. He was probably exhausted from having to support himself with only his pectoral fins, and...

    Injured Dwarf Gourami

I have also noticed that his colors are much less vivid, and he has some dark coloring on his head that the other Gourami doesn't have. Based on the symptoms, what is the likelihood this is iridovius?

    Injured Dwarf Gourami

One of my Honey Dwarfs is having some problems. It looks like there is no movement in his tail fin. It appears to be rigid. Other than that, he appears to be okay, but he is getting thrown all over the tank by the currents. None of the other fish appear affected. Any suggestions?

Tank cycled but still cloudy. Frustrated...

I'm not too sure. Maybe someone else will chime in who might have a better idea. I did fishless cycling, and my water never got cloudy. I still think it is probably just your well water. Can you recall filling a glass of drinking water and noticing that it was cloudy? Or is it just in the...

Tank cycled but still cloudy. Frustrated...

Okay, well it sounds like your well water is not in a limestone formation. I'm not really sure why your water is cloudy, although I am no expert. Putting your carbon back in may help. With pH in that range, if you have metal pipes for plumbing, you may be getting trace amounts of metals from...

Tank cycled but still cloudy. Frustrated...

I would think you would be much more likely to have cloudy water coming out of a well than city water. As long as all of your other parameters are okay, it is probably just something that you will have to deal with using well water. Is your water more on the alkaline side (greater than 7)? I...

Tank cycled but still cloudy. Frustrated...

If it has been this way from the start, and 50% water changes don't help, perhaps it is your tap water. Maybe you just have a lot of particulates in your water.

    New filter advice?

I have an AquaClear 50, and I am happy with it. If I had to get another filter, I would get one of the new types that are submerged in the tank so they will start back up after a power outage. I would suggest that you also do some research somewhere like Amazon where you can see user reviews.

    300 gallon jump start cycle

I had to cycle the hard way, but from what I understand, depending on the quality and quantity of your seeding material, it is possible to almost immediately cycle it. Maybe more realistically you might expect a few days to a week. Couldn't hurt to add some crushed fish food for nutrients and...

    Ph dropping?

My pH dropped several times throughout my cycling, but I did fishless. From what I read, pH fluctuations can be a normal part of the cycling process, due to the chemcial reactions involved. Water changes should help. If your ph doesn't go back up after the WC, or if it immediately drops again...

Can fish have internal bleeding !

I am no expert, but I googled it and found this Yahoo Answers topic: I think my fish has internal bleeding? - Yahoo Answers I won't vouch for the information, so I recommend that you do some research on your own, but I thought I would provide the information as a starting point in the event...

    Vacation advice for filter

Yeah, I may try this. I found one that costs $81 shipped from Amazon and it says it could power an HDTV for about 90 minutes. I assume the power draw from the filter (and maybe heater) would be less than a TV.

    Vacation advice for filter

Thanks for the idea! Yes, I tried to do a lot of research on cycling and fish, but my wife liked the silver dollars and later I realized that they could get quite large. I have been considering upgrading my tank, and maybe using the current one for some rams or apistos. I'll probably go with...

    Vacation advice for filter

Thank you for your reponses. @ Cynic - that is what I am worried about. If the media is in the filter and there is a power failure, there will only be a couple cups of water to sustain them. I have never had a power failure that went longer than a few hours. The thing that worries me is...

    Vacation advice for filter

I have been lurking here for a while reading articles, and just recently joined. I guess before I ask my question, I'll give you some info about my setup. I have a 29-gallon tank with medium river rock gravel. 50-gallon rated HOB filter and a power head for bubble aeration. I have three plants...
