Hello everyone,
Recently I have been having cloudy water in my 55 gallon tank and I really dont know the cause of it.
The tank has been set up for over 2 years with crystal clear water until now.
I have not added any fish for a year or more.
Water tests within normal levels using the API...
Probably longer than 2 weeks. I wouldn't feel safe about it until 4+ weeks. You could just wrap some fine filter media over the intake to keep the fry out.
Fluval spec III. I have the 5 gallon version and I personally think it's the best "ready to go" setup so to speak. Side note I hope you aren't going to put both those betas in 1 tank.
Bigger is always better in my opinion. Just realize the added cost with a bigger tank. I would just be careful with some of those barbs they are more semi agressive if I remember correctly.
Agree with the agressive water changes. I usually do 50% a week minimum. Also don't slack on cleaning your filter. I make sure to clean them at least once every 3-4 weeks.
From my experience with my algae problem I think you should try cutting your lights to only 6 hours a day. I saw a huge improvement when I did that. Also from everything I have read the DIY CO2 can only really can supply a proper amount of CO2 on smaller tanks 40 gallons and below. I'm sure you...
I don't know anything about chiclids but you can do a buch of things if you want a community tank. Tetras, Mollies, Danios, some small barbs maybe. Make sure to do your research before you buy anything.
I don't know if it is possible but I personally wouldn't try it. sponge filters are pretty cheap and if your really want to make your own there are several ways to do it yourself. Check out the DIY King on youtube he has a video about making your own sponge filter.
Thats a pretty quick timeline to add all those fish in. Keep an eye on your levels as I suspect your tank is not fully cycled yet. What water test kit are you using? As far as your filter media goes. All I would do is put a bit of TANK water in a bucket and squeeze the sponge a few times. The...
yup the check valve is all you should need. they can be picked up for a dollar or two at any pet store. I had a very similar sponge filter that worked very well. One tip is when you first put the sponge in the water squeeze it a bunch of times to get all the air bubbles out of the sponge.
My experience with snails is that some will live a long time others will kick the bucket in no time at all. I had 1 mystery snail for about 2 years and I had 2 other ones that lasted about a month each. Really no indicators for it either esp if your water tests with good results(could get a...
I have Denison barbs in my 55 gallon for about 3 years now. They are doing just fine. All of mine have stayed around 4-5 inches. I have seen bigger ones at my LFS but mine havent gotten bigger than what they are now.
