- a friend is giving me a 40 gallon tank with live sand and about 30 to 40 pounds of live rock.all his fish have died and his tank has been sitting for about 6 months. it currently only has a heater in it with no filtration system or water flow in it. I need any advice I can get to get this tank healthy again and be able to add fish and different types of coral to it . thank you in advance for any information you can give me. I used to have a salt water tank when I was a kid but I have not messed with one in about 30 years
