- We own a very beautiful 30 Gallon High Cichlid Tank. As of now I only have my Algae Eater and he's about 9inches long, an Upside Down Catfish and he's about 9 inches as well and my male Convict Cichlid and he is about 5 inches. All these fish are between the ages of 7-9yrs old. I just lost my Midas Cichlid, he was orange he was about a foot long and 10inches from belly to top fin. ;/
Pet store never told me what he was nor did they tell me that I would have a fish that would live 9 years out grow 2 tanks, and could mess the complete tank up including breaking heaters with the swish of his tail. I named him early on as we seen how large he was getting 'Gizmo' he was 6 before I realized what kind and his sex.He even got treats, he loved his 'earthworms' For people who have large tanks and don't want the hassel of a lot of cleaning time I would deff NOT suggest this type of fish, they are VERY messy!! But very beautiful as well, now if this was the only fish you wanted in a 55 gallon or
