    Rams and PH

I keep my gold ram and gbr in stable 7.8-8.0 ph and they seem fine. Vibrant colors and they've even paired up. I saw them digging holes in my sand recently as well. I've always heard most fish adapt as long as ph is stable.

Breeding German Blue Rams? Tips please.

I have a male gold ram and a female gbr that have paired up. I noticed them both digging in the sand a few days ago. They have made several pits in the corners of the tank. The females belly became very fat so I'm sure she may lay eggs in the coming days. My only concern is she may lay them...

Is a filter needed on a temporary QT?

I figured since I'll be doing water changes every day I'll be ok without a filter.

Is a filter needed on a temporary QT?

I've considered but don't know the necessary steps for restarting it without the risk of a cycle. Also it would be very difficult to remove all the substrate as I'm using PFS.

Is a filter needed on a temporary QT?

Hey I had a fungal outbreak in my 29 gallons so I decided to set up a quarantine for the fish showing symptoms. It's a 10gal with a heater and airstone. I am dosing it with maracyn and it has two fish in it, a dwarf gourami and a tetra. I'll only be dosing for 5 days, is it necessary to have a...

Fish infection outbreak? DG and tetra affected.

I don't normally post in the illness section unless I'm having a real issue and I need advice on what to do. 3 days ago I noticed my normally active dwarf gourami hanging out in the top corner of my tank. I knew something was up so I immediately did a water test and the results came up .25...

Question about running two HOB filters!

Well I'm trying to make room near the back edge of my tank for a DIY CO2 power-head diffuser and being only 29gal, there isn't much room. I ended up taking the media out of the whisper and seeding it into the penguin, I expect to be ok.

Question about running two HOB filters!

Well both filters are established including the penguin. The penguin 200 is rated for 30-50 gal at 200 GPH. Stock contains 2 mollies, 2 guppies, 4 corys, 2 dwarf gouramis, 4 white cloud, 7 neons, 5 tetra, 4 kuhli loaches. The tetra filter media could be stuffed into the penguin but I want to...

Question about running two HOB filters!

Hey everyone, before I go ahead and do something I would like to get some input as I'm unsure about it. I have a 29gal that came with a older tetra whisper 40 HOB and I decided to add a marineland penguin 200 bio-wheel HOB to my tank as well. Both filters are established at this point and the...

    1ppm of Ammonia

I may be overlooking it but I haven't seen you mention your nitrAte level. It may be the reason you have 0 nitrites. I recently switched my established 29 gallon from gravel to sand substrate and completely discarded the gravel. I have one 30gal filter and a 50gal filter on it and it seems to...

    Good freshwater sand sifters

Hey everyone I just made the change from gravel to PFS and I love the way it looks but I believe I need something to sift the sand! I have some albino cories but I want something that will really work the sand well. Its a 30gal. The reason I want something is to reduce the risk of air pockets...

    Cloudy water after plant/driftwood addition?

Well upon checking the water levels when I got home last night I noticed the ammonia level rose to 1. I immediately concluded that the plants were in fact decaying as they were beginning to turn a yellow brown color and had holes in the leaves. I took them out and did a 50-75% water change...

    Cloudy water after plant/driftwood addition?

Yeah it was most likely bulk driftwood. I bought it in a store where they had tons in large bins. I'll try a 50% water change and rinsing out the filters tonight. Would using carbon benefit? I have two filters running but only one has carbon.
