Hi everyone, I am getting back into the hobby and am getting about ready to start cycling my tank.
I am looking for a inexpensive but quality test kit to monitor water quality during cycling and beyond. There a lots of brands of strips and liquid tests out there and I have no idea which ones...
I got a free 24 gallon hex tank and I am in the process of building a custom stand/hood and filtration system.
I plan to set up a fresh water planted community tank but I don't want to mess around with hard to grow plants, nor with those that require CO2 and other fancy treatment.
I will have...
I had no idea that I could just buy foam like that. Very cool. The best part is that I can buy a large sheet and cut it to fit my filter exactly. Thank you VERY much!
Thanks, I'm planning to run by a dollar store looking for scrubbies today and if I don't find them I'll order those. For the physical filter, I assume that fiber fill (or something similar) is the best choice?
Hello,
I am setting up a 24 Gallon tank and plan to build a DIY sump out of a 5 gallon bucket. I am looking for inexpensive long lasting effective filter media. I was thinking about two stages, one using fiber fill for physical filtration and then the 2nd stage with bio-balls, ceramic rings...

for a...
Thank you all for the suggestions. Since I am now looking at small fish, if I run a rock wall up the back, do I attach the rocks directly to the tank or eave space for fish to hide behind the wall?
If the latter, I assume that I would need to space it far enough from the back to allow me to get...
Thanks for the quick response. It turns out that this tank is about 24 gallons not the 40 that I had hoped.
I will definitely try to test some local rocks, it would be nice if they are safe to use. In a tank this size, I am thinking that really small tetras, guppies and rasboras are probably...
Hi everyone, I used to have 2 freshwater tanks, a 20 and a planted 40 with community fish, platys, corries and other similarly sized fish. Sadly I ended up at a point where I could take care of my kids or fish but not both and I got rid of my tanks.
Fast forward 10 years, we moved to a new...
