Thank you! I will post as it matures. It is a week old right now so I am still cycling the fishies. So far water quality is good using the plants and adding Biozyme bacteria daily.
UV sterilizers- as they are called- should have no effect on your plants. These lights kill some types of algae and bacteria if they are in contact with the light long enough. If your tank has good water quality and proper lighting they are a wast of money.
Thanks, I did not use any special LED just one rated for natural daylight-its a utilitech pro PAR38 flood. I do not have a Co2 set up I was hoping these plants would not be real demanding for Co2. I know the depth and reduced surface area from the hex shape will increase demand. will Co2 be...
I am doing my first planted freshwater tank. I have a 35 hexagon that is 24 inches (61cm) deep. I have 3 inches (7.5 cm) of "flora max" substrate. I am keeping it simple with some water wisteria, amazon sword, and dwarf hairgrass. I decided to experiment with the light and use an LED spot...
A word about those bacteria that cycle your tank. They work to speed your cycle but do not make your tank instantly cycled (as you have experienced). I decided to see how it would work in a new marine tank. I put in the bacteria and waited a short time and added an average bio load of fish...
That is the best you can do. I have also run a tank without filter media but all pumps running for a week or more and then emptied all the water and started the real cycle just to be sure it was clean.
Cactus pixie asked the right questions. It is a mystery. I would suggest another possible source would be your HVAC if you have a central unit. If you have a vent close to your tank many things can travel through the ducts. I clean the lids on my tanks often since their job is to keep...
I am doing research for my new tank and find this forum useful so I decided to join. I am no expert but I have kept aquariums for the last 30 years. Pretty much all salt water except for my first setup. I decided to return to fresh water this time and add live plants. I pretty much build and...
