Paired Angelfish can't quite get the birds and bees right!

Hello! We have a pair of Angels who paired together immediately - so much so we called him Shadow in the end as he followed her round all the time! They've been together about a year - he is almost 4 yrs old and she is probably 18 months old now. Dirty old man! Over the last 6 months, we've...

Urgent - Fantail Fin Rot (but no clear reason why)

No - no access to anibiotics without a vet (am in the UK). She's still ok - no better, no worse. Am keeping my eye on her. We've stopped drastic water changes now as we noticed they were making her lay on the bottom of the tank for hours - she seems happier without them every day and is swimming...

Urgent - Fantail Fin Rot (but no clear reason why)

Yes - not the first day, but 2nd day we did. Its still out now. I know the carbon absorbs the medication but I was conscious that its a faff to get the filter out and disturbs the tank quite a bit - so when we thought it was just stress it seemed safer to leave it well alone to try and keep them...

Urgent - Fantail Fin Rot (but no clear reason why)

Thanks :) The nitrite reading was the lowest it could be with the test we have, it was slightly paler than the colour sheet but i wanted to err on the side of caution. I'll keep my eye on it. Ammonia was 0. Fingers crossed. Thanks so much for all your help. xx Jo

Urgent - Fantail Fin Rot (but no clear reason why)

Hi everyone Right, we've done the full water test - results are: GH @ 8 We've got some rainwater to go in to bring this down a smidge - lucky the great british summer is providing ample KH @ 18, which is a high - it says I need special stuff to bring this down - any other ways of lessening...

Urgent - Fantail Fin Rot (but no clear reason why)

2 oldies who are about 3 inches inc tails, 1 baby whos about an 1inch inc tail and we added 3 more... who were all about 3 inches... Its sounds SO stupid but they have LOADS of room... its a big deep tank... I feel so stupid. Considering how long weve had our tropical, we know not to overstock...

Urgent - Fantail Fin Rot (but no clear reason why)

Correct - 2 developed it and died within 72 hours. The tri-colour got it first (it was quiet and listless within an hour of putting her in). By the next morning, the rot had set in. She was always worse... The pewter developed it the second day. But this morning both were swimming, eating...

Urgent - Fantail Fin Rot (but no clear reason why)

Good idea - i'm going to check regardless. Do you think the oldies are just hardened to whatever it is?! I dont get how they are ok, and the baby is fine. (its not their baby btw, we got him about 3 weeks ago - straight in, no problems). People say they are subject to stress but they were...

NO3 @ 10, NO2 @ 0, GH @ 16, KH @ 10, PH @ 8, CL2 @ 0, Ammonia @ 0 Using Tetra 6 in 1 strips and Tetra NH 3 and 4. We've ordered a better kit, should arrive tomorrow so will let you know what that says too. We didnt quarantine before hand - we should have.... but our small spare tank wasn't...

Urgent - Fantail Fin Rot (but no clear reason why)

Its a medium gauge gravel. We vacuumed it when we water changed, but do this whenever we water change so its never really horrible, but never spotless either if you see what i mean. Should add too that its a fluval (pretty sure its a 204) filter which had new carbon and media over the course of...

Urgent - Fantail Fin Rot (but no clear reason why)

Hi there We desperately need your help. We've got an established 120 litre cold water tank (about 1 year) and a 150 litre tropical (6 years). The issue we're facing is with new fish in the cold tank. Ater settling 1 tri-colour veil, 1 bronze veil and 1 pewter oranda in, almost immediately, we...
