messed up that the ammonia has gone down no nitrite spike but nitrates are between 5-10ppm.

Edit: ammonia is below .25, nitrite 0, nitrate 2.5 or so.

I may need to take some pics and make a "journal" when transporting my daughter's tank 5 hours.

Took me a while to get the hang of not killing the plants in my tank :) But it is just as thrilling as seeing your fish thrive. It's worth the headaches of starting out and getting the learning curve.

Nice thing is also having the wide range of experience of people here. Some newbes have been like "I had the same thing happen last week this is what I did.". Sort of fun when it happens to yourself and you see it in other (that light bulb come on above the head).
wow.... I have a pot scrubby I had from another tank floating around in the new tank, and old filter/media. The thing just seems stalled.... but good news is that I did see a few snails so something might be starting to happen :) At least their poop will help.... wow not often you can say poop...
