I love my black substrate. Put it in my 29g when I set it up, Much better than any other colour I have tried. Next time I may go with some black sand :D

You should probably do a water change to get the nitrites into readable level, it will not effect the cycle but then you can at least know what is going on, whether or not they are going down or up. At least that is what I read, and it worked for me. :D

I feed twice per day but not much at a time. My pleco gets fed once per day as I turn off the lights to the tank.
